Cabrini University website: www.cabrini.edu/The full-time Cabrini University undergraduate population is made up of 63% women, and 37% men. “35% student diversity.” From Wiki: Cabrini University is a private Roman Catholic university in Radnor Township, Pennsylvania. The college was founded by the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in 1957, and was named after the first American naturalized citizen saint, Mother Frances Cabrini. It was one of the first universities in the United States to make community service a graduation requirement for all undergraduates; it now has a core curriculum centered on social justice which includes their signature classes, Engagements in the Common Good, also known as ECG. The core curriculum: Justice Matters All undergraduate students participate in the university's core curriculum, Justice Matters, in which, the university asserts, "students learn skills that will advance their careers and that can be used for the benefit of their communities, linking theory to practice in the world, preparing them for professional careers through a rigorous liberal learning experience." The curriculum drives to raise awareness of social problems, involve students hands-on in social justice issues, to teach students to see themselves as participating in value-driven decision making, and to develop liberally educated persons. Community service requirement Cabrini University was one of the first universities in the United States to make community service a graduation requirement for all undergraduates. Rankings Cabrini is ranked 122nd in the Regional Universities (North) category by U.S. News & World Report for 2018. Enrollment: 1,650 undergraduates; 786 graduate students $39 million endowment.

Lots of academic credentials and leadership experience. It will be interesting to see how that translates to a larger, urban university.

Lots of academic credentials and leadership experience. It will be interesting to see how that translates to a larger, urban university. Seems like Dr. Taylor has a very similar background to that of Garabaldi when he was hired at age 60 from Gannon University, also in Pennsylvania. Taking a step up from a smaller Catholic college to a larger urban university in what will most likely be the last stop in his career path. I would guess the social justice emphasis at Cabrini (see above) was attractive to the selection decision makers here in Detroit. Cabrini was founded in 1957 by the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. It didn’t enroll men until 1970. Most popular academic majors are Nursing, Psychology, Business, Biology, Criminology, Education, Computer and Information Sciences, Exercise Science & Health. Seems like a more Mercy than U-D kind of institution.

Saw a 2017 profile article on DT’s wife, Lechia Taylor. FWIW, seems the couple likes hoops:
“We try to go to sporting events. We are big basketball fans so we go to them. Now that we have a baseball team we will be going to those games,” she said

OK, there are a lot more important things in the president than athletics. Nor have I looked at how other teams at Cabrini have done. And very little that the President does affects how the program does in the short term. It's more important, for athletics, to have a guy who can get started with long term improvements, and in UD's case, that means facilities and general atmosphere, and a recognition of athletics and what it can contribute.
But, with all those caveats, it looks like during Taylor's presidency, Cabrini went from a team that had been built into a D-3 power to losing program. For the reasons stated, I don't take this too seriously. But I have to admit it would be cooler if they'd gone from also-ran to power during his presidency, rather than the other way.

Cabrini baseball has been a pretty consistent winner, as have women's basketball and both soccer programs. The school seems to take athletics pretty seriously, and I expect their athletic teams helped drive enrollment.

In 2017, Taylor’s total compensation was $477,782, according to Cabrini’s 2017-2018 IRS 990 form.
Total compensation includes bonuses, total reportable compensation, retirement and taxable and non-taxable income and benefits and deferred compensation.
Cabrini’s 990 form also indicated that the president lives on campus. Therefore the university pays for the president’s housing. Because Cabrini is a non-for-profit, the residence is not treated as taxable compensation. Housekeeping services provided for the home were also not treated as taxable compensation.
I don’t have the figures in front of me, but my recollection is that is close to what Garabaldi earns at Detroit Mercy, no campus residence.
