I learned from talking to some student athletes at this weekend’s Winter Blast that Titan Field has been deemed unplayable. Apparently the weather last week caused a lot of problems to the turf and it is unsafe for competition. Somehow a lot of folds and creases in the playing surface have formed. I believe the artificial turf it is well past it’s life expectancy and there were plans to replace it, guess that process will need to be accelerated. All the of lacrosse games are going to be off campus this Spring, location(s) still to be determined.

The field turf is in bad shape. The base under the turf has deteriorated and has make it unsafe. Where are the practices taking place. If it is unsafe for a game then it must be unsafe for practices also. Are both lacrosse and both soccer teams practicing elsewhere?

Having our facilities deteriorate to unusable would not be a mark in the PRO column for AD Vowels. This is unfortunate, and also predictable with the known life of those fields.

It's my understanding that the funds have been raised and allocated; and, that the field is scheduled for new turf over the summer. Apparently, this funding has happened one year too late. We need better capital expenditure budgeting and funding. And this has been a major issue across the campus for many decades. Procrastinate and hope you beat the odds on the useful lives of so many assets only to lose the bet repeatedly and incur even more costs. Never thought that in my lifetime that I would see the Fisher Admin building built and demolished - and the admin offices all moved back to the Student Center building which is where many of them were when I enrolled as a freshman way back when ... And what does that say about the construction quality of the Quads that were built at the same time as the Fisher Admin using the same materials and techniques?

I was at UofD not too long after Fisher opened, and Architecture students were already doing studies on the poor design of the building.

Well it was an award winning design by famed architect Gunnar Birkerts so I hardly blame the University for that. Anyway, it’s going down soon.
