I wonder how Lindy defends Damian Chong Qui over Jalen Moore.
Apparently, Lindy believes that no transfer in for any team will play better than Vin Baker, Jr. - except Amari Davis. I assume that Lindy must be predicting the HL's conference rating should be in the top 12 since no player who has never played in the HL is a pre-season all-league pick.
Also, interesting that Lindy picks Nelson 1st team even though he lost the starting job last year at NKU, and the guy who beat him out, Chris Brandon, is not on either team.

Here's a site I've not tracked before, called "The Hoop Resource." They purport to rank all 363 teams, with HL teams as shown below. I think they confused Milwaukee with PFW. Detroit's placing ahead of NKU and WSU will raise some eyebrows, too. 128 Youngstown State 157 Oakland 166 Milwaukee 169 Detroit 218 Northern Kentucky 234 Wright State 257 Robert Morris 267 Cleveland State 294 Purdue-Fort Wayne 342 Green Bay 354 IUPUI

No freaking way IUPUI should be ranked that high. They’re 357 AT BEST.

KenPom preseason ratings for the HL
151. Northern Kentucky 155. Purdue Fort Wayne 198. Wright State 213. Youngstown State 225. Oakland 255. Detroit 271. Cleveland State 293. Robert Morris 329. Milwaukee 350. Green Bay 363. IUPUI
HL is rated the 8th weakest conference (#26) ahead of America East, MEAC, OVC, Northeast, Southland, SWAC and the Independents.
KenPom predicts that we will go 3-8 in non-conference and 11-9 in the HL and win only one non-con road game - at EMU - for a total record of 14-17 counting Rochester. But KenPom does not count Rochester.

Always remember that these experts don't really know much about the HL. And even commentators who know something about the HL don't really know much about the other teams except the one for whom they root.
The HL poll picked RMU to finish 4th two years ago. They finished last.
Two years ago, we were picked to finish 9th and we finished 5th which would have been 3rd under last season's formula that used winning percentage.
Last year PFW got no vote above #5 with all other votes being from 7-10. The HL's own poll of coaches and other supposedly informed and knowledgeable people picked PFW at #9. PFW finished T-1.
Finally, Milwaukee was picked by most experts to finish in the top 4. The HL poll picked them 4th. KenPom picked them 2nd. They finished 9th.
This is why we play the games. Both CSU and PFW had 6 in-conference losses last year. So did NKU. There is no powerhouse in the HL this season.

State of the Preview Game:
Add Athlon's to the list of publisher's no longer putting out a printed preview for college basketball. Sporting News/Street and Smith is out of the game, also. Disappointing, but I guess it is understandable in this age. I'm going to miss thumbing through the various magazines to get my preseason basketball fix. We'll see if Lindy's continues after this year. Blue Ribbon is still publishing a printed preview in addition to their digitial edition, but production problems have led to a delay in them being mailed out. They're certainly not doing themselves any favors with their fanbase, as some who purchased the print edition (such as myself) might not get their magazines until after the season starts. Which kind of defeats the purpose of a "preview".

Based on the SI ranking, of the teams we play, we have 14 D1 teams ranked higher than UDM and 5 lower (MIL,CLV,RM, GB IUP). Opportunity knocks, starting with #106 BC, 171 OH, 109 FAU and 133 Bryant. Cincy @ 50 and WashSt @ 70 are the only top 100 we face.
