And it's time for the results of the 8th annual Titan prediction contest. We've used the accounting firm of DeBusschere, Ebben, Tullos, and Long to tally the official results, according to the official Calvin-Ball system of scoring.
1. What will be the Titans' regular season record (31 games)? The first Titan prediction contest was held in 2015, and as usual, As usual, it pays to be pessimistic. But as usual, most contestants were optimistic. Only two picked the Titans to finish below .500, and both were 2 games off the final 13-18 regular season record. 5 points each to Calihan Mole (11-20) and Spencer Haywood (15-16). 3 points to the Commish, who was a relatively pessimistic 16-15, and 1 point each to Titan Larry and Rogobob.
2. What will be the Titans' regular season conference record? Only the Mole had the Titans below .500 in conference play, and he racks up another 5 points for his spot on 9-11 prediction. Spencer's 11-9 prediction was worth 3 points, and 1 point each to the Commish, Rogo, and UDFan83.
3. Where will the Titans finish in the Horizon League regular season standings? The pessimistic Mole keeps racking up the early points, with his 7th place prediction closest to the actual 8th place finish. Spencer was again the second most pessimistic fan, and Terry Tyler fan, Rogo, and UDFan83 tied for third and 1 point each.
4. How far will the Titans advance in the Horizon League tournament? Well, we reached the quarters. 5 more points for the Mole, and it's starting to look like a blowout.
5. Which 5 Titans will start the most games? Here we awarded 1 point for each correct choice. Nobody got all 5, because nobody picked Moss. The others were Davis, Anderson, Liddell, and Oliver. Several people tied with 4 correct picks, including UDMPerry, JDetroitTitan, the Mole (of course) and 4 others.
(Questions 6-13 require a player to appear in at least 75% of Titan games)
6. Who will lead the Titans in points per game? A no-brainer for the past 4 years, everyone gets a gold star and 5 points.
7. Who will lead the Titans in rebounds per game? Remember, you had to appear in 75% of the club's games. Liddell fell just short of that. But had he played in 2 more games, getting zero rebounds in each, he would have still led the team. The actual leader on the 75% of games criteria was AJ Oliver. But it didn't really matter--every contestant picked Liddell.
8. Who will lead the Titans in assists per game? Davis, and again, gold stars across the board. The contest should get more interesting next year with AD gone.
9. Who will lead the Titans in blocks per game? The team's leader, on the 75% participation criteria, was Anderson. But again, Liddell would have led the team had he played in the extra games and gotten no blocks. But no one picked Anderson, nor did anyone pick Moss, who was next. Some picked Parks and Koka, who had more blocks per game but also not enough games. We awarded points to people who picked Liddell, Koka, or Parks.
10. Who will lead the Titans in steals per game? The Commish and the Mole got 5 points for correctly picking Davis. 3 points to Spencer and UP Fan for picking Moss, who was second on the team. 1 point to TerryTylerFan and UDFan83 who picked LeGreair.
11. Who will lead the Titans in field goal percentage? (minimum 5 attempts per game played). Stone didn't play in 75% of the games, but he had enough attempts as if he had, so we gave points for picking Stone to the Commish and the Mole. But more points went to JDetroitTitan, Titan Larry, and UP Fan, who picked Oliver, who did meet the 75% game threshold and led the team amongst those eligible players.
12. Who will lead the Titans in three-point field goal percentage? (minimum 2 attempts per game played). It was Davis. But not everybody chose Davis, and those who chose Oliver can 2nd place points.
13. Who will lead the Titans in free throw percentage? (minimum 2 attempts per game played). Davis, again unanimous.
14. What will be Antoine Davis's highest single game point total this year? A new, one-time category this year. The correct answer was 42, and Rogo and UP each got 5 points for guessing 43.
15. What Titan will have the most double-doubles this year? Everyone picked Liddell, and everyone was right.
Tie-Breaker: Who will win Oakland at Detroit (January 23)? Remember, this was the game at Calihan, which we lost. More points to the Mole, the only contestant disloyal enough to pick the Pioneers. Second Tie-Breaker: How many points will be scored in OU/Detroit game on January 23? Hardly necessary.
Add 'em up, and it was a landslide victory for the Mole, I believe--although the permanent records were lost in a flood in 2022--the largest margin of victory in contest history. We'll add Mole's name to the styrofoam Commissioner's Cup, which sits in the bottom drawer of the Commissioner's office desk.
The top 5 finishers this year, in order, were: 1. Mole, 74 points 2. Commish, 56 points 3. Spencer Haywood, 50 points 4. RogoBob, 48 points 5. UP, 47 points
And here's the all-time list of winners: 2015: Livernois Magic 2016: Livernois Magic 2017: Commissioner 2018: UD Baller 2019: HS Scout 2020: ShagsDC 2021: (no contest due to COVID 19) 2022: HS Scout 2023: Calihan Mole

It’s always interesting to me when someone on a public forum is referring to oneself in the third person. Mole and Commissioner are two posters that do that on this forum. This is just an observation worth noting.
