FDU's Tobin Anderson to Iona. The Gaels wasted no time doing what had to be done for the marquee program. That's why they go to the NCAAs fairly regularly. Hire that Athletic Director!

Assistant coaches promoted to head coach this year, per Rocco Miller on Twitter:
Jack Castleberry, FDU Mike McGarvey, Lafayette Russ Hodge, North Texas Russell Springman, Oral Roberts Chris Mudge, Sam Houston Adrian Autry, Syracuse Rodney Terry, Texas Jim Shaw, TAMUCC Dwight Perry, Wofford.
Now we'll see if each program will have a Willie McCarter situation or a Smokey Gaines situation.

Wouldn't it be easier to recruit to Illinois than Utah?

Wouldn't it be easier to recruit to Illinois than Utah? Good question. The WAC is a better conference than the Summit, according to recent rankings. SUU is in a good place with their program, having won 20 games for several years in a row. It would seem that it's easier to get kids to Illinois than Utah, but then again Utah bumps right up against Arizona and Nevada, two pretty fertile recruiting grounds. I will be keeping an eye on that situation. I always thought Jeter was a pretty good coach.

Western Illinois is just sort of out there on the edge of a state where there is no population growth, a second tier institution in Macomb, a nice enough small city that is going nowhere. Without knowing much in the way of details, I think SUU probably has considerably more potential. True story--I bought my first car, a 1969 Plymouth Valiant, in 1979, from a little old lady in Macomb. She was the mother of a family friend. I took the Amtrack out from Detroit, bought it from her for $300, and drove back to Michigan. I've visited Macomb just one other time, in 2008--as the executor of that family friend's estate, I returned to Macomb to have her body interred there next to her mother.

Jeter was 16-14 this past season with Western Illinois. This situation is getting crazy. It appears that this isn't a done deal, despite the fact that Southern Utah announced it. Apparently there is a sticking point regarding the buyout Western Illinois is owed if Jeter takes the job. Reportedly, SUU thinks that Jeter should pay it, while Jeter thinks that SUU should pay it (which I believe is customary). Rocky start to the relationship. You wonder if they can salvage it.

Crazy situation...Jeters agent must've dropped the ball. Whatever the situation was, it seems to have been worked out. Jeter's on the job, was officially announced and welcomed to the University. I'm not sure how the buyout was handled. My guess is that it was paid by the University, or they added cash to Jeter's deal to cover it. That's generally the way those things go. My guess is that that was the plan all along, agreed upon by the AD and president, but when the contract got to the board for approval, someone on the board said, "Hey, why are we paying this?" without knowing how things work. I've seen that happen before. Glad it all got worked out. wacsports.com/sports/mbkb/2022-23/Releases/suujeterhire

Just noticed that Jordan Fee is now head coach at Gannon University. This is where Dr. Garibaldi was President before he came to U-D. The young man grew up in a basketball coaching family in PA and is obviously doing well. Thanks for posting the notice, Sam.
