JT Yoho sprained his ankle in practice and is out for 2-3 weeks. He's obviously not playing tonight against Valpo.

Power forward Michael Karena of South Plains JUCO in Texas, committed to Wright State yesterday. This is a nice pick up for Wright State. Karena had interest from some high major schools, including Texas Tech. He played for a very deep JUCO team; South Plains is one of the best programs in the country. They regularly have several D1 prospects on the team. Karena was behind a very talented group of frontcourt players as a freshman, and was slowed significantly by an ankle injury this past season. He stats do not represent his skill level and athleticism. Texas Tech had on him campus for a few unofficial visits, but they ended up getting commitments from a couple of higher ranked players. Karena should do well in the HL. I had hoped the Titans might go after him. I was familiar with him because I follow Texas Tech closely. He's a solid pick up for Wright State. www.verbalcommits.com/players/michael-karena

They probably have the league's best recruiting class.

Mark Alstork, a guy we recruited for the class of '13 but who chose Ball State, is transferring to Wright State.

Tavares Sledge has been dismissed from the Wright State team. They've even removed his name from prior year's rosters. Some will recall that he missed a chunk of last season after being charged with domestic violence. Don't know what he did this time, but it sounds bad.
This comes 3 days after it was reported that JT Yoho was arrested for DUI in September. He'll likely be suspended for a game or two to start the season.

It's now being reported that freshman center Zach Lett was arrested this summer when police found him passed out behind the wheel of his car. . The tweeter, Boggs, is sports editor of the Wright State Guardian.

On the other Titan board, WSU coach Billy Donlan has been cited by the anti-Coach Ray group as the coach they would like to see at U of D. Donlon is praised for being a cheaper option, and for getting the most out of his limited talent. I never got the attraction. Donlon took over a WSU program that the previous coach had guided to four straight 20 win seasons. He walked into a very good situation. He didn't have to rebuild a bad program. He hasn't done a bad job, but in the four years he's been there, he's got two post season trips, a CIT and a CBI. Nothing wrong with that, and I'd be happy to see the Titans in those tournaments rather than staying home. However, in Coach Ray's fourth year at U of D, after taking over a bad program, he had the Titans in the NCAA tournament. Previously he got Ball State into the NCAA in his second year, and got Houston in the NIT in year two as the Cougars coach.
Also, WSU was a a good position to go to the NCAA tournament last year but was upset at home by what many considered an inferior Milwaukee team.
And now you have this flurry of disciplinary problems with WSU, including a situation involving a gun and two drunk driving cases. (Three if you count point guard Mark Howell's arrest for underage drinking and driving back in April.)
I think Donlon is a good coach and I don't give him full blame for the disciplinary issues; that happens everywhere, including U of D. WSU has a good recruiting class this year and could be on the way to big things. However, I still wouldn't trade Coach Ray for Donlon. Donlon may one day be considered a better coach, but the track record and results don't bear that out yet. And a bunch of arrests going into the fifth year of a coach's regime does raise concerns.

Attendance is also down at WSU during Donlon's tenure, in addition to all Sam writes above. It is up at Detroit in Ray's tenure.

Now listed at 6-10/255, he has averaged ten points in just 15 minutes per game for Wright State, while shooting 75% from the line and almost 80% from the floor. I knew he was going to be an effective mid major center.
