Poor Billy Donlon. Wright State is playing now without leading scorer JT Yoho, #2 scorer Joe Thomasson, #3 scorer Chrishawn Hopkins, without 3 year starter Kendall Griffin, and without their season opening starter at forward, Steve Davis. And 1000 point career scorer Reggie Arceneaux was limited to 2 minutes in the second half of Thursday's loss to UIC due to injury. Of course, it figures that we've already lost to them twice.

Guards Grant Evans and Mark Howell are transferring from Wright State. Evans, a 6-1 freshman last season, averaged 11.5 minutes, 1.8 ppg, and 0.7 apg in 21 games, playing 20 minutes or more 5 times, and scoring a season high 9 against YSU. Howell, a sophomore, averaged 1.5 ppg and 0.8 apg in about 9 minutes per game, appearing in 27 games. The Raiders will survive.

The Raiders have landed Rhode Island transfer Biggie Minnis, who began his career at Texas Tech. Minnis will be immediately eligible for one season as a graduate transfer. He'll give WSU some valuable depth at the point behind Joe Thomasson. They can also play he and Thomasson at the same time, allowing the latter to focus more on rebounding, which WSU needs (and at which Thomasson is pretty good).

Mark Alstork out 7-12 weeks with foot fracture. Best case he's back for season opener; worse case misses most of non-con season. Still, after sitting out last year as transfer, a tough "break".

Wright State looks to be losing two guys to transfer. Daniel Mortensen, a 6-9 freshman from Denmark, played just 80 minutes during the season, but emerged in the Horizon tournament to score 31 points in the first three games of the tournament. Mortensen has a rep as a slacker on defense but as his Horizon tournament performance showed, he has potential. Rod Davis, a little used sophomore forward (50 minutes on the season) decided to hit the road as well. The Raiders held on to rising junior Grant Benzinger (7.6 ppg, 39% from three), who had asked for his release but, after meeting with new coach Nagy, has decided to stay.

Wright State picks up a grad transfer. Scott Burgess @scottybscout 43m43 minutes ago #Illini 5th year transfer PG Mike LaTulip @mikelatulip tells us he has committed to Wright State on visit today. Shooting PG. Based on his stats, I would not expect a high impact. espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/61263/mike-latulip

Wright State takes a hit as its best player, Mark Alstork, decides to transfer. He had previously declared for the draft but had indicated that if not drafted he would return to WSU--and he won't be drafted this year. But now he has sought and received his release. He was a redshirt junior last year, and he'll graduate this spring and be immediately elibible. Seems rather ungenerous to Coach Nagy, who put Alstork in the point guard slot and gave him the chance to star.
Obviously a blow to the Horizon, too, to lose another 1st team all-conference player. And it raises the question--can mid-majors afford to take transfers any more? They sit a year, then transfer as graduate players with immediate eligibility. And you'd best not redshirt anyone, either.

Mid majors are again being killed by grad transfers. I do not like that rule.

Sad news: rising sophomore Ryan Custer of Wright State, is paralyzed from the waste down after diving into a pool and hitting his head on another person's knee. He underwent surgery last night and the hope is that as the swelling is reduced he will regain feeling in his lower body. A tragic freak accident.
Custer appeared in all 32 WSU games last season, averaging 10 minutes and 2.2 points.
