For the most part, I actually think the Titans have scheduled pretty well over the years--under both Ray and Bacari we usually played one of the tougher non-conference schedules in the league, but didn't go overboard. So we'll see--that's why Davis gets paid the big bucks, and he knows more basketball than I do, to be sure. But it is probably true that several conference teams are scheduling over their heads, it hurts the conference. This year, we play 3 ACC teams, 4 MAC teams (2 home and 2 away), the two teams in Vegas, plus Gonzaga, Northeastern (Home), and SIUE (Home). None of the remaining games are sure wins. But none of them are sure losses. Other than Gonzaga on Dec 30, we don't have any more weird travel schedules like we had in playing Clemson and Wyoming within 48 hours on their home courts. Our win over UC-Irvine shows that when we are rested, we can compete well against good mid-major teams. Hopefully, this turns into a trend over the next 23 days.

From Jeff Borzello on Twitter:
"Wright State guard Skyelar Potter has entered the transfer portal, source told ESPN. Sophomore was averaging 6.4 points and shooting 40.7% from 3 through nine games."
This is another example of the HL losing young talent. Obviously not a star player, but definitely an underclass rotation guy that will need to be replaced.

Notice how the newspaper article tries to infer blame against MVSU Coach Hunter for the problem because he played for the Pistons when Ron Artest went into the stands at the Palace. Also, the article says that the students were merely chanting the name of the coach's wife. Which team's coach's wife? The article does not answer the question.

Wasn't it at Wright State last year that Coach Davis was particularly upset with the fans? I believe the issue with fans occurred in the previous game at NKU. And it was more just trash talk between them and our coach than someone going into the stands. The issue at WSU concerned a hard foul on AD by Love and whether Love had stepped on AD after the foul like he did to Jordan Blount in the UIC game at WSU earlier that season.

Wright State has dropped 3 sports, softball plus both tennis teams. It will only have 11 teams next year. They will be D2 next year unless they get a waiver from the NCAA.

Wow, that seems pretty significant. They aren't just 1 team away from meeting the NCAA D1 minimum either. And they noted this part of a longer term cost cutting of athletics and university wide so its not just a 1 or 2 year thing. Who knows, but I'm sure WSU won't be the first school to be toeing the D1 line.

I follow several mid major programs closely and would hate to see any of them have to go the D2 route. We are in uncharted territory thanks to the pandemic.

I would think they'd have to be pretty sure they were going to get a waiver to make this move. One never knows with NCAA, but my guess they've been told unofficially that they're OK. Lots of schools are going to be looking to cut budgets this year.

The Central waiver is good thru the end of the 2021-2022 academic year. I saw another article (Tony Paul maybe), who posited that Men's Golf could be a potential add as it is among the cheapest and has a max of 4.5 scholarships I believe.
Wright seems to have a little more work and sports to add however, so it will be interesting.

Wright State received a waiver last week to continue to participate in D-1 for its remaining sports. No word on how long the waiver is for. As long as Covid remains an issue, I expect the NCAA to be lenient.
