Big recruiting weekend for the Spartans, as they reportedly have Tyler Ulis and Devin Booker in for visits. They are reportedly in competition with Kentucky for both players.

Tyler Ulis makes his decision on Friday. MSU and Kentucky are among his finalists, but most people think Kentucky is the favorite.

When Darrell Davis went to Dayton instead of MSU, I thought that the Spartans may have backed off of him due to having another player (Snider, Blackmon, Ulis) pretty much locked up, but with Snider committing to Illinois and Ulis expected to choose Kentucky, the Spartans appear to be scrambling. I wonder if they miscalculated, or if they really lost Davis to Dayton head to head.
They have Lourawls (love that name) Nairn in for a visit this weekend, along with Riley Lachance. ESPN ranks both guys as four stars, but has Lachance ranked in the top 100. Nairn seems to be the most highly ranked of the two. Going to be interesting to see what Izzo is able to do with this class.

Spartans got a big verbal commit today from Lourawls "Tum Tum" Nairn, a 2014 point guard out of Kansas. Izzo picked up his recruitment of Nairn late, after Tyler Ulis and other committed elsewhere. This is a great save by Izzo, who recruited Nairn early on, and then backed off when it appeared Nairn was the favorite for Kansas and MSU had other prospects. It think it's a situation that works out for both parties.

The Spartans got a solid, if not spectacular, commit today from Javon Bess, a swingman out of Ohio. He's athletic and should be able to rebound and play defense the way Izzo likes. His shot reportedly still needs some work. Did a lot of his scoring in transition and in close.

Still stinging from the loss to UConn, the Spartans could be facing a more challenging 2014-15 season, as it is being reported that sophomore Gary Harris will declare for the NBA draft. He seems to be the only Spartan who is LIKELY to go pro, but you never know with players today.
With something like 17 straight NCAA trips, the Spartans won't get sympathy from anyone if their season is a rough one. However, I think they will be fine again next year. Izzo is that kind of coach, and it's that kind of program.

Nice few days for the Spartans. They got a nice commitment last week from Kyle Ahrens, a well regarded class of 2015 wing. This morning, West Virginia transfer Eron Harris announced that he was transferring to MSU.
With Ahrens, Harris, and Deyonta Davis, the Izzo is bringing in some good talent for 2015-16.
Jeff Goodman @goodmanespn 7m Eron Harris told ESPN he is transferring to Michigan State. Harris averaged 17 ppg for West Virginia last season. Will sit and have 2 left.

The Harris commit has Horizon ramifications as it means Bryn Forbes is likely to stay at Cleveland State (or at least not transfer to MSU).

Or, maybe not... Jeff Goodman @goodmanespn 6m Michigan State has landed Cleveland State transfer Bryn Forbes, ESPN has confirmed. Averaged 15.6 points last season. May get waiver.
