Looks like Izzo will have his 2023 class completed before we complete our 2022 class.

Michigan State gives Izzo an extension. Five year rollover deal.

Tough break for MSU as forward Malik Hall will miss three weeks with a stress fracture in his foot. Those injuries are tricky.

Mid season check on the Spartans:
After last night's win over Iowa, the Spartans are 14-7, 6-4, basically tied for third in the Big Ten with Northwestern.
The Spartans have been up and down, partly due to injury issues with Malik Hall, who is probably their most valuable player. He has missed 11 games and been limited in others. They are 9-2 when he plays. AJ Hoggard continues to progress nicely as a point guard, with his numbers up to 12 points, 6 assists, and 4 rebounds per game. Joey Hauser is living up to the potential he showed as a freshman at Marquette prior to transferring to MSU; he's averaged 14 points and 8 boards. The leading scorer on the team is Tyson Walker, who has lifted his scoring average from 8 points to 14 points. He scored 30 against Purdue. Mady Sissoko also made a big jump this year. After average 1 and 1 last season, he's up to 6 points and 7 rebounds in 22 minutes per game. He's become a factor in the post, and racked up a double double against Iowa last night. Jaden Akins has moved to the starting lineup as a sophomore.
The Spartans are sometimes plagued by turnovers and an inconsistent offense. Even with that, they are a couple of one point losses to then #2 Gonzaga and then #3 Purdue away from having a much better looking season. Their "bad" loss was on the road at Notre Dame, a game that two starters, Hall and Akins, missed with injuries. Their best win is probably the double OT win over Kentucky.
This isn't the best Spartan roster, but the MSU class of 2023 is ranked #3 in the nation and should immediately provide an infusion of talent. This season's team looks like a good bet for another tournament appearance, but 2023-24 has the potential to be special.

During the last three minutes of today's game against Marquette, Michigan State was nearly perfect. I can't recall the last time I've seen a team close out a game against top competition with such flawless execution.

More good news for Michigan State as forward Malik Hall will use his extra year of eligibility to return to MSU for a fifth year. 2022-23 was supposed to be Hall's breakout year, but he got hurt against Villanova on November 18 and was never healthy after that. He missed 11 games and was diminished in others.
Spartans are looking stacked are looking pretty good for next season.

I like the Spartans and think Hall hurt them a lot more than he helped them. He tried to do more than he was capable and forced a lot on a team that shared the ball he was the one who shared the least and when Izzo did put him in he was a momentum killer. I was hoping he would graduate and go away!

I've seen similar comments on social media, and concerns that his return will cause someone in the recruiting class of 2023 to de-commit or lead to transfers of current players. Personally I think a healthy Hall is a big plus for the Spartans, but opinions definitely vary.
