We have to cough up the money and play in The Basketball Classic. We simply have to. It’s the right thing to do for Antoine.

Pass the hat, we all on here would contribute to make it happen.

To be honest, I’m conflicted about one more game given the Titans being several games under .500. Part of me wants to see Antoine break the record, part of me says that he needed to do that tonight (or with a team win, during the semifinal in Indy). I need to sleep on it.

Always better to see it in the day light. I think you get to see everything better then in the dark.

I couldn’t find anything through a quick web search on the Basketball Classic for 2023, but here’s some information on the College Basketball Invitational: The 2023 College Basketball Invitational (CBI), a NCAA postseason men's basketball event, will be held March 18-22 in the arena at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach. The CBI will have a 16-team bracket with a single-elimination format. Tickets for the 2023 College Basketball Invitational go on sale at www.ticketmaster.com/college-basketball-invitational-tickets/artist/1845977. Tickets may also be purchased at the Ocean Center box office on CBI game days. Sat. March 18 - 11 a.m. (4 games) Sun. March 19 - 11 a.m. (4 games) Mon. March 20 - Noon (4 games) Tues. March 21 - 7 p.m. (2 games) Wed. March 22 - Championship -- 5 p.m. (1 game)

Nice location to end the season. In my opinion, less depressing then the Michigan cold. It's really not a bad idea.

Guys, don’t worry. The Mole has this. I’ll just use my charm and awesome sense of humor to get us in the CBI.

Bernie Smilovitz on WDIV mentions the CBI, says it costs $50,000 to participate in the tournament and Davis could still end up playing another game. Also says he’s never heard of it. After the sports segment is over, the anchors join in and say, yes, they checked and the CBI is actually a real thing and maybe someone should start a GoFundMe account. All references to the school throughout the newscast are “U of D.”

Anyone else think it’s weird that the official CBI Twitter account has made two tweets about the Titans tonight after the loss? Seems a bit unusual. Could be some 23 year old marketing coordinator just messing around. Could mean UDM already had an agreement in principle to play in the CBI should we not make the NCAA.

Tony Paul of the Detroit News tweets: Detroit Mercy is 14-19, but I guess still eligible for a low-rung postseason tournament. I asked Mike Davis if the Titans would accept an offer: "Oh, definitely. Why wouldn't we? Try to get better, win some games." That would draw big criticism, with Antoine three points shy.

To add context, here is a post-game quote from Coach Davis as he said if a postseason tournament gives Detroit Mercy the opportunity to play another game, he would consult his team about it.
"If they want to play, we'll play," the elder Davis said. "If they don't want to play and it's time to move on, we won't play."

My thoughts are the same every year. If you have a chance to play more games, you play. We wouldn't be the first team to play in a post season tourney with an under .500 record. Beyond giving AD a shot at the record, it is good experience for the guys on the team who will be coming back.
Pay it and play it.
