Thanks to the American icon Oldsmobile for sponsoring this year's post season scoreboard! The NCAA tournament will be thrilling, as usual, and I think the NIT will be very compelling as well.

The NIT has a pretty solid field. Oregon, Oklahoma State, Rutgers, and Clemson got the #1 seeds.

What to watch for March 14, 2023.
The NCAA Tournament play in games start tonight on Tru TV. However, I would recommend the opening round NIT game on ESPN2, as Michigan takes on Toledo at 7:00PM. Both teams are disappointed at not being in the Big Dance. It will be interesting to see which team is using that for motivation.

I don't know that it translates into a win, but I'll bet it's much easier for the Rockets to get up for the Big 10 team than the Wolverines to get motivated to face a MAC squad.

That's the trap for Michigan. The Rockets probably have several players who remember that Michigan didn't recruit them, too. And there will likely be a good number of Toledo fans in the house.

Scores for March 14, 2023. NIT and NCAA tourney action, including the ridiculous idea of having two 11 seeds in a play-in game.
NCAA FIRST FOUR Pittsburgh 60, Mississippi State 59. MSU had two shots in the final two seconds to win it: a wide open three and a tip in. Both just missed. Texas A&M Corpus Christi 75, South East Missouri State 71
NIT Michigan 90, Toledo 80. Very entertaining game. Liberty 62, Villanova 57. Shorthanded Nova ends the season at 17-17. Vanderbilt 71, Yale 62 Wisconsin 82, Bradley 61 Hofstra 88, Rutgers 86. A #1 seed falls. UAB 88, Southern Miss 60 Colorado 65, Seton Hall 64 Eastern Washington 81, Washington State 74. WSU falls to 17-18 on the season.

Scores for March 15, 2023.
NCAA First Four FDU 84, Texas Southern 61. I would have lost money on this game if I had placed a bet. Arizona State 98, Nevada 73. Of the "last four in", Nevada was the team that I would have left out. Good NET, but no really impressive wins and some bad losses. Closed the season on a four game losing streak, counting this one.
NIT Cincinnati 81, Virginia Tech 72 UCF 67, Florida 49. Surprising blowout; good night for the AAC. Oklahoma State 69, Youngstown State 64 Morehead State 68, Clemson 64. Bad night for the ACC. North Texas 69, Alcorn State 53 Sam Houston 58, Santa Clara 56 Utah Valley 83, New Mexico 69. New Mexico started the season 14-0 but went 8-12 the rest of the way. Oregon 84, UC Irvine 58. I thought this one would be closer. Oregon avenges an early season defeat to UCI.

Mississippi State looked as bad, I don't know how they won 20 games. I thought Clemson would win the NIT. Wasn't TX Southern MD's former school? I guess basketball power Fairleigh Dickenson must be an underrated power.

I guess basketball power Fairleigh Dickenson must be an underrated power. Mississippi State was inconsitent all year, and benefited from a down year in the SEC. Still they finished in ninth place. Their big out of conference win was over Marquette, but they also lost to Drake. Overall, I didn't think they should have gotten in. Yeah, Texas Southern is Coach MD's former school. They were a two point favorite against FDU, but just came out flat. Still, that's their third straight trip to the NCAA tournament. Texas Southern made a good hire, picking Johnny Jones to replace Mike Davis. He continued to momentum that Davis had in place.

2 of my fav mid-majors pull big upsets. And NKU is giving Houston a run 4 minutes into the second half.
