My concern is that Hurst has played just five games in the past 14 months. Last year we saw how getting back into game shape hindered both Kuac and Manciel (recovering from his previous season knee injury). Mak came on stronger as the season progressed, and I expect Mak will have the advantage at the start of the season. If he does well, Hurst is going to have to fight for time even though Hurst might have more upside. And, of course, the two have vastly different games (from a small sample of Hurst) so the opponent might dictate who gets more time in each game.

I was at the golf outing yesterday. I believe that Alex T will be eligible, but will have to earn playing time because he missed summer practice. He is on campus.
Summer practice is over. Players have 2 weeks off until fall term starts.
Also, Kyle LeGreair will be our grad assistant.

Final grades are due on Monday. We should know by midweek if Alex is definitely eligible.

That's a roster that is heavy on in-state talent. At the very least, they should realize the impact of the Wayne State game and be focused for it. 6-8 Legend, 6-11 Alex, 6-9 Ryan, 6-7 Kuac, 6-9 Stephen, 6-10 Miles. Once again, we should look pretty good in the airport. It's a different day, so we don't know how things will turn out, but a decade ago I'd be really excited about having so many freshmen and sophomores in year one of a rebuild. Go Titans!

It's a different day, so we don't know how things will turn out, but a decade ago I'd be really excited about having so many freshmen and sophomores in year one of a rebuild. Go Titans! Indeed. If we surprise everyone and win 18 games this year, we may have to replace 9 of these guys as they respond to better NIL offers. I saw a Horizon preview just yesterday that included Tyree Davis and Kyle Legreair in our rotation. But that got me thinking, how many do they have clearly wrong on other teams? And the reality was, I couldn't begin to say, because I can no longer in the least keep track of any team's roster until play begins, or at least shortly before. It's not that long ago I could tell you in the off-season who were the key players on each team--now I have no idea who has left and who is coming in. Occasionally I think maybe we really should drop to D-3. We can let D-1 days be memories, just like Top 20 rankings are now memories. At least we'd have players who have somewhat normal student lives, and would stick around for a few years. And then I realize, no, we won't even get that--D-3 and D-2 players are increasingly sucked up to higher levels. Sports fans love two somewhat contradictory things: talking trades (or transfers/recruits at the college level); and roster stability. The latter, sadly, is shot in college ball, and even the former loses much interest since the changes are so ephemeral. I hope transfer-mania settles down, but I'm not optimistic. And I hope we can find a way to keep good players--but I'm not optimistic.

Alex is on board!ππππ And we move from 11th to 10th in most pre-season predictions. I'm hoping we'll surprise. It's a big recruiting class we've got. It may turn out to be the best since Ray McCallum days. I like what Monty is doing and (I think) trying to do.

With the roster posted, I'll add my speculation on the starting line up. My SWAG (Scientific Wild A$$ Guess) approach results in this prediction for starting line up on opening night.
PG Lovejoy. Really seems to be the only option, unless someone really surprises in the early fall practices. Experienced, good stats as a sophomore following a big improvement over his freshman season. Not a pure shooter, but put together a streak of six straight games in double figures last year for the Eagles.
SG Mak. As I've said before, I'm glad he came back, not just because he's a Detroit kid who seemed excited to be here, but because his play improved over the course of last season. I know remaining eligibility doesn't mean what it used to, but with eligibility through 2025-26, he should get every opportunity to win the starting job.
SG Hurst. Good size and he got a little experience last year. Big question for him is health.
PF Legend. Question for him, will the third stop in his college career be the place where he reaches what we all thought was very good potential back in high school? Or is he what he showed at EMU, a 5 point, 3 board guy.
SF Kuac. Hopefully he is fully recovered.
That's opening night. I hope that Alex is eventually able to work his way into the starting lineup, but it sounds like he hasn't been in organized basketball or conditioning activities for awhile. Might take him some time to get in game shape and get his timing back. I'd love to see Miles, Ryan, and/or Stephen play beyond expectations and grab one or two of those front court spots as the season goes on. GG was expected to be a legit D1 talent as a high schooler and maybe that year off has helped rather than hurt him.
Lots of questions without a lot of concrete information, but it's good to have some roster certainty at this point.
Go Titans.

I'm hearing that we have a 16th player, a 6'4" guard with prior D1 experience.

Monty seems to be following the Brian Wardle template at Bradley when he took over there 10 years ago. Lots of freshmen. It took 2 seasons before it paid off. Since year 3, except for the Covid year, Bradley has been a very solid MVC program.
My only question: since the transfer portal has changed the college game so much, is a freshman-dominated squad still an effective way to turn things around?
