DePaul's in a nice early season tourney next year, playing in a four team field with Wichita State, BYU, and Texas. Two games will be played at All State Arena. They got a nice blurb about this in the Chicago Tribune and another mention in the Sun Times. It would be nice if U of D had gotten some attention like this when it was included in the Gotham Classic. Playing Syracuse and Temple in that tournament was impressive, at least on the level of Wichita State, BYU, and Texas. www.chicagotribune.com/sports/breaking/chi-depaul-mens-basketball-news-blue-demons-to-play-in-hall-of-fame-classic-20130404,0,7190600.story

Reports on social media are suggesting that up to five players are transferring from DePaul basketball this off season. Not sure if they are leaving on their own or being "encouraged to" as a way to open up scholarships for better players.
DePaul is coming off a 11-21 season, with plenty of questions about their roster.
No names are official yet, except for Jodan Price a 6-7 freshman swingman from Detroit Country Day. Could be a potential recruit for the Titans if all works out.

Quick update on my Blue Demons, in case anyone besides me is interested. :-)
1. Rumors are that there is going to be a shake up in the coaching staff, probably losing an assistant and bringing in someone new. According to sources, the likely assistant coach to leave is former Michigan coach Brian Ellerbe.
2. DePaul is hoping to officially ink two top recruits this week who have already committed. One is To 100 recruit Billy Garret, Jr. (mentioned above) the other is a a shooting guard from Oak Hill Academy. The Demons already signed to Juco big men for next year. They are still pursuing a Chicago high school power forward, in part because he is a good player, but also because like us, they need to make inroads in their local high school talent pool. .
3. Chicago's radio home, 670 AM, entered into a contract to broadcast U of Illinois games, also. They will still carry DePaul games (which is good because I can get that station in my car at night) and will move DePaul games over to a sister station when there is a conflict.
4. There are also rumors that another player might transfer, in addition to the four who left already. Word is that the coaching staff wants this guy to stay and are trying to keep him, unlike the other recent transfers.

On the Basketball Travelers website, UD is advertising for a home and home. I wouldn't mind Loyola a bit - it would be nice to keep playing our old friends. But DePaul would be a natural too, if we could get them on board.

Man, I'd love to keep that Detroit/Loyola tradition going. No reason why we shouldn't be able to make it happen. Lots of history, close proximity, etc.
You know I'd be ecstatic over a Detroit/DePaul series. Like you said before, it's a natural.

DePaul has reportedly received a verbal commitment from Thomas Hamilton Jr., a local Chicago kid who was rated four star early in his high school career before before he had some issues with conditioning and motivation and transferred to one of those Florida Basketball academies for his senior year.
He was reportedly offered scholarships from Bradley and Illinois, so grabbing a sought after local kid is a big deal for the Blue Demons.

Looks like both of my college teams got bad news this weekend. Apparently, Rod Strickland is NOT coming to DePaul as an assistant coach. Rumor has it that he was offered the job, but would only take it if he was guaranteed to be the next head coach at the school. The administration did not go for that.
They are still looking for candidates to fill at least one, and maybe two, coaching slots.

Rumor has it that DePaul is the destination for graduate transfer Sandi Marcius from Purdue. Big kid, 6-9, 268. Played about nine minutes per game over 29 games for Purdue this past season. He'll be an insurance frontcourt guy for the Blue Demons. I would have liked to see him with the Titans; three point and three rebounds in nine minutes per game probably translates into solid production in twice that time in the HL. However, I had no indication we were in the mix. espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/46252/sandi-marcius

He's a good addition, and Marcius will help on the front line in a limited role. On the negative side, DePaul junior center/forward Donovan Kirk, a Pontiac native, is transferring. He plays more like a small forward in a power forward's body on offense, but he blocked 50 shots last year. The coaching staff apparently tried to get him to stay for his senior year, but he's on the way out. I actually hope that Detroit's staff considers Kirk.

The Blue Demons put what is probably the finishing touch on it's 2013 recruiting class with the announcement that Illinois transfer forward Myke Henry has chosen to attend DePaul. He will have to sit out the coming season but will be eligible in 2014-15. The staff hopes he can step in for the forward high scorer they are losing after next season.
This is the best recruiting class that head coach Oliver Purnell has had at DePaul. This coming season will be his fourth at the school, and he is under pressure to produce. Five players transferred from DePaul this season, and only one is believed to be someone they didn't want to lose. That was Donovvan Kirk.
The Blue Demons Class of 2013 includes:
1. Guard Billy Garrett Jr. an ESPN 100 recruit from Chicago who is the son of a current DePaul assistant.
2. Guard RJ Currington, three star recruit from Oak Hill Academy.
3. Center Thomas Hamilton, Jr. who was a four star recruit early in his Chicago high school career but fell off due to injuries and other issues. High potential, low risk signing when the team has a lot of scholarships available.
4. Center/forward Greg Sequele, a JUCO recruit from LA.
5. Center Forrest Robinson, a JUCO recruit from Texas.
DePaul also hooked two transfers.
1. Center Sandi Marcius from Purdue, a graduate player who is immediately eligible. Has one year left.
2. Previously mentioned forward Myke Henry, who was a four star recruit when he graduated high school. He will have two years remaining and will be eligible in 2014-15.
Next task on DePaul's to do list is finalizing the coaching staff. They are hiring one or two new assistants.
