DePaul fought hard for awhile but then fell to Creighton last night. Tomorrow they take on our old foe Butler. Tough schedule for the Demons so far this year.

Huge win for the Blue Demons tonight. On a less than 48 hour turnaround, DePaul fell behind by double figures in the second half on the road to Butler but rallied to get the overtime win 99-94. Great game.

Tuesday night DePaul beat St. John at home to claim back to back Big East conference wins for the first time since January 2008. That is just amazing to me; to go that long without back to back conference wins. I'm sure DePaul is gald to break that streak. There is some positive buzz around the program this year, and a little more attention coming from the Chicago media.
Huge test this weekend at Villanova.

The Blue Demons hung with Villanova for a half, but eventually Nova pulled ahead for an 88-62 victory. DePaul had too many players struggling offensively to stay in it longer, and eventually Nova's far superior talent won out. Next up for DePaul is a quick turnaround and a game tomorrow afternoon against Xavier. The Musketeers are coming off a win over Georgetown and a five day rest. The schedule has not been kind to DePaul, now 10-9 and 2-4 in the league.

Dealing with injuries, suspensions, and illnesses, the Blue Demons dropped games to Xavier and Seton Hall and are now 10-11, 2-6. They host Providence on Saturday after a much needed week off.

DePaul continues to struggle. They have two players suspended for undisclosed reasons, including their leading scorer, senior Cleveland Melvin. It's inexcusable for a senior to have something like this happen. In fact, DePaul has gotten some very unprofessional behavior from Melvin and Brandon Young, the two players who were expected to provide some stability and senior leadership this year. The Blue Demons brought in some talent this year to complement their seniors, but they have not stepped up. I am sure Coach Purnell is very disappointed, and his seat remains hot.
The Demons put up a good fight against Creighton for awhile on Friday night before falling.

The rough season gets rougher as DePaul gets blown out by twenty by Villanova. The Blue Demons leading scorer and rebounder, Cleveland Melvin, was kicked off the team and left the university, for an undisclosed violation of some kind. Big loss for DePaul and even more heat on Coach Purnell.

After upsetting Georgetown in the first round of the Big East conference tournament, DePaul saw its season come to an end with a blowout loss to Creighton.
It's going to be a long off season for DePaul. They return some young talent in 2014-15 and have a good class coming in for 2014, but they have lost the attention of the general sports fan in Chicago.

Easy come, easy go type week for DePaul. 2014 guard Jon Davis, who signed his NLI in November, received a release and has reclassified to the class of 2015. He will be attending prep school next season. It's a big loss for DePaul that ended up having a ripple effect on the Titans. The Blue Demons apparently poached away Detroit verbal commmit Aaron Simpson as a replacement.

DePaul announced the official signing of two members of it's 2014 recruiting class.
Raymond Doby is a 6-7 forward who played at a prep school in Maryland. He's an Illinois native. Said to be an athletic, high energy guy.
Darrick Wood is a 6-5 guard from Hutchinson JUCO. He was slowed by an early season knee injury, but averaged 14 points per game on the season, including 18 ppg over the last eight. He was a St. John commit coming out of high school before doing a year at JUCO. He will have three years of eligibility left at DePaul.
These two players join previous signees JUCO forward Rashaun Stimage, a Chicago native, and former Detroit Titan commit JUCO guard Aaron Simpson, from North Chicago, in the DePaul class of 2014. Also eligible next season will be transfer Myke Henry, a former Chicago high school star who comes to DePaul from U of Illinois. He is actually a class of 2013 recruit, sitting out 2014-14 due to transfer rules.
Solid class, but not a great one, and several other Big East teams did better in recruiting this season. There is potential here: Doby is a solid three star guy. Wood was good enough as a high schooler to commit to St. John's. Stimage was rated the top senior in Illinois as a high school senior and Simpson was #3 in the voting for Illinois Mr. Basketball that same year. Henry was a four star recruit and top 100 player across the board as a high school senior. There are question marks about all of them, but reasons to be optimistic, too.
Hopefully, there players can hit the ground running and have a positive impact right away. DePaul needs a winning season badly.

DePaul is getting a series going with Northwestern that should be good for both schools and the Chicago basketball scene.
Adam Zagoria @adamzagoria 2h Northwestern and DePaul have agreed to a five-year men’s basketball series beginning in the 2015-16 campaign.

The Blue Demons put out the confirmed games of the non-conference schedule. Pretty good schedule, but probably tougher than I would have liked to see. Once again DePaul will be bringing in a lot of new players and will still be in the "jelling" phase early in the season. Credit to them for not scheduling a bunch of cupcakes and for giving love to the State of Illinois Illinois mid majors.
Interesting note: DePaul has not played the University of Illinois in men's basketball since 1957.

The Blue Demons lost another player to transfer as DeJuan Marrero is transferring to Chipola Junior College. He was a red shirt freshman this past year. DeJuan was a well regarded high school recruit who tore up a knee as a freshman and never appeared to recover fully.

DePaul's 2014 class took a blow as forward Raymond Doby had academic issues and was not qualified. He plans to do a year of prep school and reclassify to 2015. This will actually be his second prep school. He transferred to a prep school for his senior year in high school, in part because of the "academics" of the prep school. Talk about a backfire.
Doby didn't play as well as expected once he transferred for his senior year, so it remains to be seen if he will still garner some high major interest for the class of 2015.
