Depaul raised their conference record to 2-0 over the weekend with a close home win over Xavier. The Blue Demons have been so up and down this year. They have wins against Stanford, Marquette, and Xavier, but got blown out by Oregon State and Colorado to go with losses to teams like Lehigh, Ohio, and Loyola Marymount. Wins against those last three would give DePaul a record of 10-4 with a 2-0 start in Big East play, a much better position than the 7-7 they currently hold. It's going to be a real struggle to finish at .500 or above this year. Some of it is bad luck, as starting power forward Rashaun Stimage has yet to play after injuring his knee in November, but some of it is just bad performance by players and coaches.
Next up for the Demons is Creighton on Wednesday night.

Entering the weekend and their game against #8 Villanova, DePaul sits alone in first place in the Big East at 3-0. They followed up with wins over Marquette and Xavier with a road win over a desperate Creighton team. I think reality is going to smack Depaul in the face on Saturday, but it's nice to see them in first place for now. They recently moved senior power forward Forrest Robinson into the starting lineup, and he knocked down six three pointers on his way to 20 points and nine rebounds against Creighton.
Had it not been for that six game losing streak earlier, which included some really puzzling losses, DePaul could be dreaming about an NIT bid. As it stands now, a .500 record is still a long shot. Coach Purnell is still on the hot seat; the team he has now should have been like this a year or two earlier. He's got a couple of good recruits coming in, and he's in the mix for others, but it will take an unexpectedly strong finish to bring him back, according to most observers.

DePaul with the rare bounce back conference win on Sunday, beating St. John's in OT, 71-67. DePaul now has four wins in conference, the most it has had since the 2007-2008 season. As has been said before, DePaul was out of it's depth in the monstrosity that the Big East became, and a better fit for the restructured conference. It's probably two years later than he planned, but Oliver Purnell is seeing some progress at DePaul. espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=400588422

Huge win for DePaul tonight, beating number 24 Seton Hall on the road, 64-60. DePaul is benefiting from the recent addition of power forward Rashaun Stimage, who missed the first half of the season due to a foot injury. DePaul's weaknesses are defense and rebounding, and Stimage certainly adds that. He had ten points, seven rebounds, and two blocks in 21 minutes tonight.
This is DePaul's first road win over a top twenty five team since the 2005-2006 season, a span of over 50 games. They are in a three way tie for first in the Big East at 5-2.

DePaul has dropped three straight since the win over Seton Hall. No shame in the losses. At Xavier, at Providence, and at home against Nova today. Depaul had double digit first half leads against Xavier and Nova, but the more talented opposition came back to win. Next up for DePaul is a rematch against Seton Hall. espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=400588439

DePaul came up big at home against Seton Hall last night, finishing the game on a 16-3 run in a 75-62 victory. They won despite not shooting well from three (they have the top three point percentage in the conference) and without getting any points from one of their top scorers, Tommy Hamilton. The Blue Demons are now 12-12 overall, 6-5 in the Big East. This year marks the first time they have swept a conference opponent since 2007. The Tribune and Sun Times only had the AP story for coverage of the game, but the Tribune had a nice photo gallery. www.chicagotribune.com/sports/college/chi-depaul-races-by-seton-hall-7562-20150203-story.html

Senior Jamee Crockett has been a huge part of DePaul's improved play this season. He was hurt most of last year, but is making the most of his senior year.
Jon Rothstein @jonrothstein 3h3 hours ago Jamee Crockett last year: 3.9 PPG, 1.4 RPG, 25% FG's, 27% 3-pt. THIS YEAR: 11.0 PPG, 3.2 RPG, 46% FGs, 31% 3-pt. Huge jump for DePaul.

DePaul lost to St. John's in New York last night, 86-78. It was DePaul's fifth loss in the last six conference games. They are better this year than in year's past, but still have a ways to go. espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=400588454

DePaul suffered their worst loss in a while Wednesday night, losing by 27 to Providence at home. Just a flat, puzzling performance. The Blue Demons are 6-8, 12-15. That's the best season they've had in several years, but may not be enough to keep Oliver Purnell on the job. Those really bad losses they had in the pre-season (Loyola-Marymount, Lehigh, Ohio, etc.) are really dragging the season down. Next up for DePaul: The Georgetown Hoyas. www.depaulbluedemons.com/sports/m-baskbl/recaps/021815aaa.html

The momentum that the Blue Demons had in the beginning of the conference season has disappeared in the midst of this current five game losing streak. DePaul suffered a horrible loss at home to a bad Creighton team, and that will probably cost Coach Oliver Purnell his job. The City of Chicago and Depaul will soon be breaking ground on a new arena, and they need to get some buzz going and get a coach in there who can win. Purnell is a good coach, but he hasn't been able to turn around DePaul as he has done at other places. The program is in a better place than when he took over, so hopefully DePaul can attract a head coach capable of getting the program back to prominence.
The Blue Demons close the regular season at home against Butler and on the road at Marquette.
