Sign of the times: Thon Maker is reportedly planning to announce his decision in January. Not the decision on where he will attend college, however. He will be announcing whether or not he will reclassify to the class of 2015. He is currently 2016. The twitterverse is abuzz in anticipation. And people wonder why these kids have such a high opinion of themselves. zagsblog.com/articles/thon-maker-targeting-january-for-reclass-decision/

Twitter and recruiting: recruitscoop.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1657539Excerpt: "You get a false sense of who's really recruiting a guy," said Drexel assistant coach Bob Jordan, who has been using Twitter since 2009. "It gives the kid a false sense of the level they can play at, and coaches a false sense because most times you look at a player's college list and realize something is weird about this. "Did they really offer him? Somebody tweets something about someone and all the sudden there is a domino effect. Then coaches think, 'Am I missing something?' and start making calls." "Social media impacts recruiting negatively because once a kid gets a bad sense of the level they can play at - based on something untrue that someone told them - that same kid gets stuck thinking they can play at that level." But can such a silly tool as Twitter have so much influence on the minds of some of the best minds in college basketball and lead them to make decisions they regret when presenting scholarship offers to irresponsible recruits? Thousands of transfers in the past few years can certainly attest to that as social media's influence can make a player gain more credit than they may deserve.

Thousands of transfers in the past few years can certainly attest to that as social media's influence can make a player gain more credit than they may deserve. That's a very interesting perspective. We know how easy one can be influenced by enough people telling them what they want to hear. And that goes for both coaches and players. There are a lot of outside influences for a decision that is so important.

Here's an odd one, Michigan is bringing in a D3 basketball player from Williams College for a visit & may use their last scholarship (I'm thinking this is for the class of 2014, where they have 1 still open) on him. Duncan Robinson, a 6' 7" wing averaged 17.1 points and 6.5 rebounds per game while shooting 45.3% from three-point range during his freshman year and was named D3Hoops.com Rookie of the Year and was selected as a 4th team All-American. How may times has a D3 basketball player transferred to a high major D1 school? (No Commish , that's not a challenge ) & although I understand the John Beilein connection, why weren't we in on this guy? linkhttp://www.umhoops.com/2014/07/29/report-michigan-host-division-iii-transfer-duncan-robinson/

TJ, that is an odd one. Can't remember seeing a D3 guy jump up to D1 like that.
Terrence Payne @terrence_payne 30s Williams College wing Duncan Robinson confirmed to me last night by phone that he will visit Davidson (Aug. 1-2) and Michigan (Aug. 4-6).

Here's another interesting one. Nick Marshall, a 6-11 center in the class of 2015, verbally committed to Memphis today. Here is the strange part: He also announced he is going to do a prep school year after this his senior year in high school, and is reclassifying to the class of 2016. I'm not sure of the reasoning behind that move.
And if you're Memphis, do you really feel comfortable about that commitment with two years left before he is scheduled to hit your campus?
