Just watched this game on channel 38 as an advance look at the Titan Classic Sports network. What a game. Five future NBA players were in action: Hubbard and Green from Michigan and Duerod, Long, and Tyler from U of D. Michigan was clearly the better team, but the Titans fought back all night.
It's good to see the beginning of a better effort to celebrate and publicize our rich basketball history.
Man, John Long and Terry Duerod could both REALLY shoot. I don't think I have watched that game since I saw it live back in 1977.

Wish I could get Ch. 38. Duerod and Long are guys who make you say, "man, what they would have done with a 3 point shot."
This is a good thing. I don't know how much high school recruits care about what has to be ancient history (how interested were we in the careers of Norm Swanson and Guy Sparrow at that age?). But it's still good - maybe wake up some old alums, bring a few more folks out from the city, and it projects a general image that we consider ourselves big time. You don't want to be all nostalgia, or get a head that's too big for where we are. But if we don't start to think of ourselves as a big time program again, and take steps to act like one, who else will?

Speaking of the three point shot, I watched an old MSU game with Scott Skiles the other day. Imagine him with the three pointer.
I agree 100% with this being a good thing. We have ignored or de-emphasized our history for too long. U of D basketball is a lot more than Dick Vitale, and I think our past administrations have focused too much on him. Let's bring some light to the players, especially the former players who are still in the area.
I was encouraged by some of the cryptic comments on the other board about the CAL Club meeting:
More games on the radio (good for us that the Pistons went to 105.1 FM).
More games on TV with an additional local TV partner; Mr. V told me after one of the games that they were talking to channel 7 about a package. That would be sweet.
A position with the program for Earl Cureton.
And, apparently, the development with the rivalry with Toledo.
Good things going on. I feel like under Vowels the program is staring to think like a big time program again.
