IF you want to get a look at the Shockers, they are playing Memphis right now on ESPN.
This Tip Off Marathon is fantastic.

Looks like a very tough game. I am going to try to come up from W. Va. for it.
If we go 9-6 or even 8-7 non-con I'd be pretty happy. That would be losses @ Oregon, @ Michigan, @ Toledo, vs. Wichita; @ Rhode Island, @ Arizona State, and one of @ Northeastern, @ Central Florida, and then maybe a slipup at home (most likely Oral Roberts) to drop to 7-8. Wins would be Rochester, South Alabama, Md-Eastern Shore (neutral site), South Florida, Aquinas, Bowling Green, and one of Northeastern/Central Florida, and hopefully hold serve v. Oral Roberts and no slip ups elsewhere in this list. Do I think we can do better? Yes. Would I like to? Yes. But just putting on my realistic, non-fan hat, I'm not yet convinced we're better than that. Right now I'd be thinking 8-7 non-con, plus maybe 9-7 Horizon, 1-1 or maybe 2-1 in Horizon tournament. That would put us at perhaps 18-15 or 19-15, and probably a CIT bid if we wanted one. We could go 10-6 in Horizon. Again, I'd like to do better, think we can, but not convinced yet that we will. Absolute worst case looks to me about 11-21, endangering Ray's job, but I think that's quite pessimistic. But I digress from the thread.

Commish, if you make it up for the game, please let me know. I'd enjoy meeting you in person. I think Larry Titan also said he was hoping to be there in person.
I wouldn't be mad about a 9-6 record non-conference, all things considered. Especially with the questions surrounding Kane, Patrick O, and AFS. Hopefully we can get some breaks and do better than that. I wouldn't have minded a few less tough road games on the schedule this year.
We're just over three weeks from the Shockers visit to Calihan Hall. Hoping for a big, enthusiastic crowd.

Larry Titan will be in Calihan Hall on Dec 13 for Wichita St game. I thought I read somewhere that Perry Watson will be honored at that game. Is that true?

Players and fans like to schedule big-time opponents, and I generally agree with that. But sometimes scheduling down has real benefits. I think of a school like Kansas State in the 1990s that aimed to break a losing mentality by essentially scheduling creampuffs non-conference. That helped K St. break that losing mentality and soon become a national power. Or closer to home (and time and sport), Central Michigan has been a dog in college hoops for quite some time. This year their early schedule is: Alma (W) Youngstown State (W) Maine Arkansas Pine Bluff Grand Canyon @ Bradley (Bradley stinks this year) SIU-Edwardsville @ Northwestern Concordia McNeese State Central Pennsylvania
That's one of the suckiest schedules I've ever seen. But: They could easily start the conference schedule 11-0, or more likely 10-1 after losing at Northwestern. But that's a Big 10 team they can beat. They build some confidence, get used to the idea that they win. And if they pull off an upset at Toledo in their first conference game, they may even get one or two votes in the Top 25. Even if they lose that, they then play two of the worst MAC teams, @ Ball State and Miami at home, so they could be 13-1. At some point you've got to beat someone, but if they even come close to .500 in conference, they likely get a CIT bid, which isn't much but let's them tell recruits they reached a tournament, and it all has promises of things to come. "Come to CMU, and we can reach the NCAAs." And at some point, I suspect a few more fans start to show up, if nothing else because they're curious about this 7-0 team.
Of course, this assumes they win all or most of these games. And yes, the bubble can burst quick if you lose your first 4 conference games.
The Titans really need something to build some early season excitement. Better than scheduling down is beating a couple teams, but we've already failed with Oregon, and Michigan and Wichita will be much tougher.

WSU bounced back from the loss to Utah to get a nice win over St. Louis, 81-52. Next up for the Shockers is a tough game against Seton Hall on Tuesday, before they make their trip to Calihan Hall.
All of Wichita State's wins have come by margins of over 15 points.

Shockers are in the middle of a tough stretch for Detroit - South Florida last weekend, on the road for Central Florida, Rhode Island, and Arizona State after this game. It's all a matter or perspective.
