EMU has managed to get on both UM and MSU's schedule this year, playing both on the road in December. They have two more solid road dates with Dayton and Missouri State. They've got a home game with Oakland, but the rest of their non-con schedule is atrocious - games against 4 NAIA teams (Rochester, Concordia, Marygrove, and St. Francis of Illinois), and games with Coppin State (last year's RPI 263), Youngstown State (242), UNC-Greensboro (303), and Longwood (336).
Further appreciate the non-con schedule assembled by Jay Smith and crew for Detroit.

I traveled West last night to attend the Eastern Michigan University Basketball tip off event. They call it Rock the REC, because it is held at the EMU Recreation and Intramural building (REC/IM). The REC is like a larger version of the Student Fitness Center on the U of D campus. The event had the usual activities: Dunk contest, three point shooting contest, and separate scrimmages for the men and women's teams. There was free food and free giveaways. Spectators were encouraged to arrive in costume and there was a "best costume" contest. There were also performances by the cheer team and dance team. Each attendee got nice schedule poster.
I was impressed by the level of student attendance at the event and by the enthusiasm on display. EMU has such poor attendance at their games, so I wasn't sure what to expect at the event. The REC/IM is a cozy environment and lent itself to a loud atmosphere. The spectators were very close to the action. It was fun.
Watching the scrimmage I could tell that EMU has some real athletes, but they were sloppy. I know it was just a scrimmage, but I would not have been happy if I was the coach.
Freshman Jordan Noble, who had a reported Titan offer last year, played pretty well during the scrimmage. He's a good athlete and handles the ball pretty well. He is super skinny, though. He looks skinnier than Paris Bass. It might take him a couple of years, but I think he'll be a good player for EMU. He didn't make it past the first round of the dunk contest, but he can get up.
Eastern and U of D have several common opponents this year. It will be interesting to see how those games go. I think that The Titans will have a better team than the Eagles, but I wish the Titans had some of the Eagles interior bulk They've got three players of good size: 6-11/245, 6-11/285, 6-9/250. None of them are all conference types, but a couple of they appear to be good athletes.
I'll probably see a few EMU games this year with family. All three of my sisters and my brother graduated from EMU, and my nephew is a student there now.

Big game for the Eagles (Hurons) tonight when they travel 15 minutes down the road to Crisler Center to take on Michigan. I am tempted to go, but I will be watching my old high school take on Belleville tonight and scouting Ty Groce.
EMU has been playing well this season, beating a couple of HL teams and losing to Dayton in a game they made close. They'll probably catch a focused Michigan team tonight after the NJIT game, so it will be interesting to see how they do.

Great win for the Eagles last night. It was an ugly game, from all indications, but an ugly win beats a pretty loss any day.

The Hurons (I mean, Eagles) picked up another JUCO guard commit today when Tymetrius Toney of Georgia Highlands College committed to EMU. Toney was previously with App State, and had offers from mid majors and some high major interest. verbalcommits.com/players/tymetrius-toney

Looks like EMU is losing LaMonta Stone Jr., once a Titan target. Earlier in the Spring, they lost Jodan Price, a former Blue Demon who I had hoped would be a Titan target, but apparently never was. All for the best; Price didn't do much for the Eagles.
Reggie Rankin @reggierankin 36m36 minutes ago Confirmed LaMonta Stone II not returning to Eastern Michigan, getting Medical RS. Will be ready in the fall 4 yrs to play.

Interesting to see if does a lateral move or drops down.

Ty Groce, from my old high school, ends up at Eastern Michigan. We had discussed this previously; I wonder why he decided against Northeastern.
Ty's a Railsplitter, so I will be rooting for him and will probably get to EMU for a few more games this year.

EMU is making some changes with their season tip off event. Formerly the "Rock the Rec", it was held at the Recreation Center on campus, providing for a more intimate setting and allowing for expected smaller crowds. This year, it's being changed to "Crash the Convo" and is being held at the Convocation Center. The date is next Tuesday, November 1, and I might end up going, just to support the school that my brother and sisters attended for undergrad. www.emueagles.com/news/2016/10/24/mens-basketball-emu-basketball-to-host-first-ever-crash-the-convo.aspx

It's been hard to get a handle on what kind of team the Eagles have this year. They hung tough with Pitt in game one, and blew out our Titans later, but they have been up and down. Tonight they got an impressive win, blowing out a good Central Michigan team by 22 at the Convocation Center. The Eagles put five guys in double figures. EMU held Chippewa scoring machine Marcus Keane to 22 points on 6-22 shooting. emueagles.com/news/2017/1/3/mens-basketball-eagles-open-mac-play-with-victory-over-cmu-85-63.aspx

There was speculation in some corners that EMU might be making a move at the head coach position, but it looks like Coach Murphy might have survived a disappointing season. EMU picked up a verbal commitment, as Lansing CC forward Isaiah Green picks EMU. Not sure who else was on him, but his stats look really good. It appears he averaged 18 points and 13 rebounds per game this past season, after averaging 13 and 10 as a freshman. 64% from the floor, 76% from the line.
