Center Baylee Steele is leaving the EMU program. Seems like a notable loss. He's 6-11 and averaged 4 points and 4 rebounds in 19 minutes per game last season. Had 18 and 10 in a win over CMU.

EMU has the distinction of playing in the nation's first official college basketball game of the D1 season when they host Spring Arbor tomorrow at 10:30 AM.
The Eagles are picked to finish 4th in their division. I expect Coach Murphy's seat is a little warm.

From the Free Press MAC preview:
"Eagles Claim Unique Honor"
Eastern Michigan, picked to finish fourth in the West Division in the conference's preseason poll, will be the first Division I basketball team to pick up a victory this season. The Eagles host Spring Arbor at 10:30 a.m. Friday.
Spring Arbor, a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), will be no pushover, though. The visiting Cougars began their season Oct. 24 and improved to 5-0 after a win over Rochester College on Saturday.

Eastern handled Spring Arbor the way a D1 team should handle a lower level team, winning by a score of 90-60. The Eagles played in front of an unusually large crowd, apparently due to a special promotion. Several elementary schools brought bus loads of kids and they were treated to several crowd pleasing dunks and spectacular plays. Is was a fun atmosphere.
I decided to make the trip West to see the contest in person and was joined by the famous Moose himself.

Eastern added what appears to be some quality transfers and might end up being better than expected.

EMU has two players on their roster that I wanted the titans to recruit, Malik Ellison and Isaiah Green. Both guys contributed today as EMU spread the minutes around. Hard to tell much against Spring Arbor, but they both showed some promise. Ty Groce, who was a player the Titans seemed to recruit pretty hard under Coach Ray, had a nice game for the Eagles. EMU moves to 8-2 with a good road win over Long Beach State, 85-80. The Eagles trailed by nine late in the first half before making a run. The Eagles put four players in double figures, including Kevin McAdoo, who scored a career high ten. Former Titan recruits Jordan Nobles and Ty Groce saw action as well, with Jordan totaling 27 minutes, 6 points, four rebounds, and three assists. I liked him when the Titans were recruiting him, and he's turned into a good mid major rotation guy, capable of big games. The Eagles have a talented squad, and appear to be more consistent than years past. They could be better than the predictions. emueagles.com/news/2017/12/16/mens-basketball-emu-pulls-out-exciting-85-80-win-at-long-beach-state.aspx

Had a good time last night while attending the EMU versus CMU game at Eastern's Convocation Center. The Eagles won 79-74 behind strong performances from Ty Groce, James Thompson, and Elijah Minnie. The crowd wasn't big, but it was involved. The pep band was great. I got to catch up with former Titan head coach Don Sicko. And some kid won $10,000 in a halftime contest. All in all, a good night at the game. www.emueagles.com/news/2018/1/9/emu-mens-basketball-holds-off-cmu-79-74.aspx

Length of the court golf put through a small target. No one had come close before.
