The Eagles continue to make me envious of their basketball program. Tonight, they fell behind Akron 10-0 to start the game and trailed by 19 with 12 minutes and change left in the game. Akron was basically playing a home game at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, and had a good crowd on hand, based on what I could hear on the radio broadcast. Eastern started playing a full court press, Akron got shook, and the comeback was on. With 3:15 left, Jordan Nobles hit a three pointer to tie the game. Eagles took control and won by a final score of 67-58. Next up for the Eagles is a rematch with Toledo, tomorrow night. I'll be in Arizona for a long overdue vacation, but I will be rooting for EMU from a distance. EMU is 21-11 on the year. www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/boxscore?gameId=401020526

Generally, I agree--play on! I can both imagine and have seen situations where I would urge declining a cbi or cit bid, but generally--play on. If the Titans somehow went 17-16 next year- and remember, that's a huge and therefore unlikely improvement--I'd urge us to play in the cbi or cit.

EMU looked dominant, especially inside. The rumor is they paid $38K to host a CIT game, but I can't confirm if that is true

I was even ready to take a Vegas 16/8 bid in Ray's last year, just for the experience and extra games/practices. I think a lot of smaller programs would feel that $38K is a reasonable investment in developing your program and maybe rewarding your fans with another home game. Attendance was listed at 1138, so they got some of that back in tickets and concessions. If they get another home game, I'm going to try my best to go. I'd love to be planning a trip to a Titan CBI/CIT game right now.

EMU might have locked up a good one as class of 2018 6-9 forward Andre Rafus Jr. verbally committed to the Eagles. Rafus was originally in the class of 2017 and committed to TCU over a bunch of other high major offers. However, he de-committed from TCU and took a prep school year. If his eligibility questions are cleared up and he sticks with this commitment, this could be major for Coach Murphy and EMU. www.espn.com/college-sports/basketball/recruiting/player/_/id/206905/andre-rafus

Rafus is on the slight side and plays a lot like Chatman. He is a lefty and good from the three. Does not like to mix it up underneath, quick up and off of the floor but a little weak side to side. He will be a big small forward. I agree with Sam a good get for the HURONS.

In my UD years, Eastern Michigan was an NAIA team. They moved to NCAA and MAC after the George Gervin teams of the early 1970s.

In my UD years, Eastern Michigan was an NAIA team. They moved to NCAA and MAC after the George Gervin teams of the early 1970s. A friend of mine Frosty Ferzacca who was the AD at Eastern thru 1973 was responsible for Eastern going to NCAA D1. They didn't actually make it until 1975 but Frosty laid the ground work, put everything in place. He hired Dan Boisture as his Football Coach who by the way was a Titan Alum and Jim Dutcher as the Basketball Coach. Frosty left Eastern to become Athletic Director at FIU and then went on to become conference commissioner. Boisture left Eastern at the same time and became coach of the Detroit Wheels and Dutcher left and went up to Minnesota where he recruited Kevin McHale.

EMU moves to 8-2 with a good road win over Long Beach State, 85-80. The Eagles trailed by nine late in the first half before making a run. The Eagles put four players in double figures, including Kevin McAdoo, who scored a career high ten. Former Titan recruits Jordan Nobles and Ty Groce saw action as well, with Jordan totaling 27 minutes, 6 points, four rebounds, and three assists. I liked him when the Titans were recruiting him, and he's turned into a good mid major rotation guy, capable of big games. The Eagles have a talented squad, and appear to be more consistent than years past. They could be better than the predictions. emueagles.com/news/2017/12/16/mens-basketball-emu-pulls-out-exciting-85-80-win-at-long-beach-state.aspxI agree MCsam, I saw some of the EMU vs OU game, EMU has some excellent athletes, they should win 20+ games this season. Good call on Eastern winning over 20 last season, RBJ.

Plans are underway for the second installment of the Crawford family event "U-D vs EMU: Civil War". A couple of years ago my sisters, who graduated from EMU, joined me at the EMU vs Detroit game at Calihan Hall. Obviously, it was a better night for them than it was for me. We plan on attending this season's game at the Convocation Center. If any of you are in the house this year, let me know. Some of you guys met my sisters at Calihan and they enjoyed meeting my message board crew.
Go Titans.

EMU moves to 2-0 with a home win over Drexel, 66-62. Kevin McAdoo scored ten for Eastern. www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/boxscore?gameId=401083934Also today, Eastern added a player to the class of 2019 when shooting guard Shamar Dillard verbally committed. Dillard is from South Bend, IN but is currently playing for Jermaine Jackson at Spire Academy in Ohio.
