Two Chips hit the transfer portal:
Guard Cameron Healy is leaving CMU after a single year, following three years at Albany. He averaged 12 points per game, hitting 36% from three.
Ryan Wade, Michigan native, who played for CMU one year after two years at Holy Cross. Only scored 3 points all year. Didn't see action after January 25.

Is it my understanding that the transfer waiver only applies to your first transfer? If so, then wouldn’t many of the folks in the portal (Like these two from CMU) have to sit out a year? Or has the NCAA given up on enforcing any rules?

It would be nice to get some clarity.

Coach Barbee continues to build his roster, this time getting a commitment from a kid from France, by way of Florida. Nicolas Pavrette, a class of 2021 center from Central Pointe Christian Academy, verbally committed to CMU. Reportedly had offers from North Alabama and Eastern Washington. Nice add this late in the offseason. verbalcommits.com/players/nicolas-pavrettePavrette in the transfer portal after averaging 8 minutes and less than 2 points in his freshman year.

We reportedly offered Polk out of high school (Redford). He averaged 8 points and 4.6 rebounds as a true freshman in 2021, but just 3.3 and 1.9 this year. An "undisclosed" injury put him out for the season on January 9 last year, and a knee injury put him out for good on January 11 this year. If he's healthy, and hasn't lost too much to the injuries, he ought to be a real possibility. But those are two pretty big ifs.

What can we say about the Chip at the halfway point? They are struggling as expected, and their new roster hasn't meshed well. Covid has trashed their schedule, putting their record at 2-12, 1-2. They smartly banked some money in what is pretty much a throwaway year, traveling to DePaul, Gonzaga, Missouri, Xavier, and Kentucky. Their wins are over Kent State and Eastern Illinois. The bright spot on the roster has been junior guard Oscar Lopez, the transfer from DePaul, who is averaging 10 ppg on 44/38/79 shooting. He can be a building block going forward. Freshman Kevin Miller is averaging just under 10 per game; hopefully for Coach Barbee Miller will return next season, but that's always a question mark these days. As discussed, JJ Jr. quit the team this week, but I'm sure the staff didn't beg him to stay. His absence frees up shots and minutes for players who want to be there. I like Barbee as a coach. He's experienced and has had success. I expect him to do a good job in Mount Pleasant. Lopez in the transfer portal. Looking for his third school after starting out at DePaul.

Central Michigan is picked 8th by Athlon and 10th by Lindy's in the MAC predictions. They have nine transfers with immediate eligibility, and Athlon thinks they have a shot at outperforming their prediction. Look for Jermaine Jackson Jr. to put one last shot (or most likely, a LOT of shots) into chasing the league. Dre Polk reportedly had a Titan offer for the class of 2020, but opinions were mixed on how badly we wanted him. As a freshman he averaged 8 and 5 in 18 minutes per game, making the All freshman team. They expect bigger things from him this year, as one of five guys on the roster who is listed as 6-10 or more. The Chips have six players on the roster from the State of Michigan. CMU finished right around where most predicted, in eighth place in the league. It was a tough season, with a brutal non-conference portion, and some signs of life mid league play. Kevin Miller looks like a real player, and I hope the Chips can hold on to him. They've lost Oscar Lopez, Cam Healy, and Dre Polk to the portal already. All of them contributed, especially Healy and Lopez. Jermaine Jackson Jr.'s career came to an end, as he quit the team in mid season. Quite a difference from what most expected of him career-wise when he was a hot recruit in high school. So far for the class of 2022 the Chips have added Carrington McCaskill. They'll need to add more to get create some buzz for 22-23. Edit: A couple of hours after I made this post, the Chips got a commitment from Emil Skytta, a 6-4 guard from Finland.

The Chips added a couple of recruits this week:
Josiah Scott, 6-7 forward from Bella Vista Prep in Arizona. Was mostly under the radar until a strong showing on the Spring AAU circuit.
Markus Harding, a big 6-10, 265 center from a solid JUCO program, Eastern Florida. Averaged 8 and 3 while shooting 55% from the floor in 16 minutes per game. Also had offers from Marist and St. Peter's.

Really good addition for the Chips as class of 2022 guard Reggie Bass gave his commitment. Bass is a three star on Rivals and was verbally committed to Illinois last year before de-committing. Had several high major offers early in his high school career. On paper, a really good pick up for Coach Barbee. n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2022/reggie-bass-258429
