Marquette's brand is still strong, even after consecutive losing seasons. The Warriors (yeah, I know) picked up to commitments on Sunday. The first was "up transfer" UNC-Asheville guard Andrew Rowsey, who averaged 19 ppg last year and will have two years of eligibility left. Commit number two is 2016 small forward Sam Hauser from Stevens Point, Wisconsin. Hauser had previously visited Virginia, but decided to stay in=state.

Given the above, and reports that a Chicago native transferring from Bradley is not considering DePaul, expect the new DePaul coach to NOT focus on making Chicago his primary recruiting ground. The high school coaches are not sending players the Blue Demons way and haven't been for years.

Georgetown got a good start on the class of 2017 with the verbal commitment of Tyler Foster, a shooting guard from Baltimore. Foster is reportedly committing early because he has always wanted to be a Hoya. It's nice when your history can do your recruiting for you. :-) zagsblog.com/georgetown/2017-guard-tyler-foster-to-georgetown/

Butler picked up a very good commitment with a verbal from ESPN 100 2016 center Joey Brunk. Brunk is an Indianapolis kid who had multiple Big Ten offers, but Butler did a nice job of keeping the hometown kid at home.

Xavier picks up an "up" transfer, landing a former Norfolk State player.
Jeff Borzello @jeffborzello 2h2 hours ago Xavier has landed Norfolk State transfer RaShid Gaston.
Big man averaged 15.5 ppg and 9.6 rpg last season. Sit one, play one. Good pickup.

I hate seeing mid-majors turned into farm teams for high majors. It is a trend that could mark the final death of mid-major ball, at least of mid-majors competing reasonably with high majors. Think where CSU would be this year with a lineup of Forbes, Lewis, Grady, and Lomomba. If this trend accelerates then good scouting, patience player development, and the occasional recruiting coup will be more or less for naught.
