Saw this guy up close at Calihan last year. He struggled against us, and regressed overall from his freshman year. Still, he's got a lot of high major interest. Jon Rothstein @jonrothstein 2m2 minutes ago UCF transfer Adonys Henriquez told @cbssports he will visit Pitt on Wednesday & SLU next weekend. Visits Utah next Monday. TCU also in mix. I am frequently surprised by the amount of high major interest in guys who haven't produced much at the mid-major level. Oh well, I'm not a scout. It would be interesting to really follow these guys and see how many end up as tail end of the bench fodder. Guys like Bryn Forbes and Trey Lewis and Jason Calliste had shown that they could play. I suppose you could say that about the Milwaukee guys Austin Arians and Akeem Springs, although they strike me as a bit less productive. And I suppose Henriquez is a good bet for a Pitt-type school--a double figure scorer as a fresh/soph at an AAC school. But it seems like some pretty average players are getting attention, and that merely declaring that you want to transfer suddenly makes people think you're better than you are. I see that Junior Lomomba, originally from Cleveland State, is leaving Providence as a grad transfer. He put out a tweet talking about how wonderful his years were at Providence. Kind of odd to put out such gushing tweets when leaving. So was he being pushed out? Then I doubt he'd seem so nostalgic and grateful. Maybe he just saw the numbers--Providence has a lot of guards, including some good rising sophs/juniors-- although with Dunn leaving and Junior having averaged 24 minutes per game last year, you'd think he'd be a big part of their 2017 plan.

Here's another one. This young man averaged 7 points and 3 blocks per game for Bethune Cookman, and shot 26% from the free throw line. He's not even that big, only 6-8, 215. So, really, how does he get a spot on Auburn? Jeff Goodman @goodmanespn 10m10 minutes ago Auburn has landed another transfer -- Bethune Cookman big man LaRon Smith. He told ESPN he just committed to the Tigers. Shot-blocker. I think these grad transfers are getting to be like early entrants into the NBA draft. People remember the guys who transfer up and do well, but no one talks about the guys who transfer up and end up as practice fodder, getting garbage time during the games.

(Not sure if UCF is a high major, though.)

Another example of the mid majors turning into farm systems for high majors. Dylan Smith was a lightly regarded high school recruit, with offers from UNC Asheville and UT-Rio Grande. Had a solid, not great, freshman season at UNC-A, scoring 13 per game while shooting only 37% overall from the floor. If you're the coach, you're probably thinking, "My shooting guard spot should be set for the next three years." Instead, Smith decides to transfer and immediately picks up a lot of high major interest. He visited Virginia Tech already, and will reportedly visit Arizona soon. It's enough to make a mid major coach tear his hair out.
Jeff Goodman @goodmanespn 4h4 hours ago UNC Asheville transfer Dylan Smith told ESPN he took a visit to Virginia Tech this weekend.

Saw this posted today. It's obvious, but true. The transfer game used to benefit mid majors. A player would land at a high major, realize that level of competition wasn't right for him, and move "down" to a mid major, where he could play well and benefit the program. Now, if you're a mid major coach, you have to hope your players are good, but not too good. Crazy.
Rick Lewis @coach_Rick57 2m2 minutes ago Low to mid majors have to recruit even harder to keep their top players from transferring. #TheNewTrend

Here's one of those tweets I don't get. Jorgenson struggled mightily for George Washington, so how is that a "good get" for Butler?
Jon Rothstein @jonrothstein 2h2 hours ago GW transfer Paul Jorgensen has committed to Butler, his AAU coach told @cbssports. Sit one, play two. Good get for Chris Holtmann.
On the other hand, Florida picked up a transfer of a guard from Virginia Tech who averaged eight points per game with bad shooting numbers and more turnovers than assists and it was called a HUGE pick up for the Gators. So maybe "good" in Jorgenson's case is appropriate. :-)

Stating the sad reality:
Paul Biancardi @paulbiancardi 2h2 hours ago UNC Asheville wins the @bigsouthsports. They lose terrific frosh in Smith & Sutton. MM's turning into D-league @royphilpott @jonrothstein

Time for Titans to reestablish as a major program is running out.

Nevada is hosting four transfers this weekend alone.
Adam Zagoria @adamzagoria 3h3 hours ago Chicago, IL Big weekend at Nevada: Hosting transfers Cody & Caleb Martin (NC State), Kendall Stephens (Purdue) and Hallice Cooke (ISU).
I listened to an interview with Jamie Dixon of TCU the other day and he said that due to transfers and the new NBA draft rules, college coaches will be building rosters right up until the start of the Fall semester.

Regarding the potential transfer of Kameron Chatman from U-M to Detroit and the hiring of dad Canaan to Titan staff. Presuming Chatman clan moves from Portland Ore to Michigan, there may be another Chatman in Titan future. Younger bro Khalil is a 6-6 SF just completing 10th grade. With Dad on staff and bro on team, we may have an edge in recruiting. Keep an eye out for which HS he attends in Metro area...".Country Day?

The younger brother can definitely play. Class of 2018, already 6'7", Chatman and JJ as coaches could help in recruiting just by bringing in their kids

Austin Grandstaff, a freshman guard at Ohio State, is transferring, about ten games into the season. A few things are apparent from reading the article. Based on the quotes of his father, it doesn't appear they made the most informed choice to go to Ohio State, which already had good players at that position. Also, this is a good example of the unrealistic expectations some players can have. AG is a freshman, averaging 11 minutes and four points per game. Is this really the time to throw up your hands and say, "I can't make it here."? In today's basketball world, I guess it is. www.cleveland.com/osu/index.ssf/2015/12/freshman_guard_austin_grandsta.htmlQuick update on this guy. He transferred in December of his freshman year from Ohio State and ended up at Oklahoma. Not sure what happened between now and then, but he's transferring again after spending four months as a Sooner. I'm waiting for his "I'd like to thank my coaches and teammates for a great experience during my four months at OU" social media post. :-) www.news9.com/story/31997263/report-ou-basketball-parting-ways-with-transfer-austin-grandstaff

The number of transfers has led to a relatively new phenomenon: The transfer flip/flop de-commit. Javon Bess transferred as a sophomore from Michigan State April and chose Akron a few days ago. Looked like a solid pickup for Akron; I thought Bess was high major bound. Apparently he had second thoughts. He is "opening up his recruitment" again. Verbal Commits @verbalcommits 40m40 minutes ago Former Michigan State/Akron commit F Javon Bess is reopening his recruitment. (HT @zachfleer270) @jb_Bizzle verbalcommits.com/players/javon-bess …
