Final 2020-21 standings in the MVC.
Loyola-Chicago 16-2, 26-5 Drake 15-3, 26-5 Missouri State 12-6, 17-7 Indiana State Northern Iowa Evansville Valpo Bradley Southern Illinois Illinois State
Good year for the MVC as both Loyola and Drake put up flashy records. The Ramblers won the conference regular season and tourney titles, and made it to the Sweet Sixteen in the big dance. Coach Moser then left for Oklahoma. Drake got their first NCAA win since 1971 by beating former MVC member Wichita State. Two of our former conference mates, Evansville and Valpo, finished in the middle of the pack. Valpo is still trying to find their stride after stepping up from the HL.

News for the Northern Iowa program, looking to bounce back next season. Probably good news, because at the very least it gives them some roster continuity next season.
Per Jon Rothstein: "Tywhon Pickford, Trae Berhow, Goanar Mar will all return to Northern Iowa next season and use their additional year of eligibility, per Ben Jacobson. Panthers will also return AJ Green, who averaged 22.3 PPG in three games before a season-ending injury."

Loyola-Chicago snagged a Detroit area kid, getting a commitment from Treyvon Lewis from Ferndale High School. This kid wasn't on my radar, but had an offer from VCU and he took an unofficial visit to Michigan State in June. I haven't really been following high school ball the way I used to. 247sports.com/player/treyvon-lewis-46116033/

Indiana State 10. Illinois State Final standings in the Valley for 2021-22. Northern Iowa 14-4, 20-12 Loyola Chicago 13-5, 23-8 Drake 13-5, 25-11 Missouri State 13-5, 23-11 Bradley Southern Illinois Valparaiso Illinois State Indiana State Evansville Northern Iowa won the conference by a game but our old friends in the Windy City won the conference tourney and got the auto bid. Unfortunately for the Ramblers, they played one of the worst offensive games I've seen in a long time and fell to Ohio State in the first round. Loyola shot 27 percent overall, 29 percent from three and THIRTY PERCENT from the free throw line. They had 14 turnovers and only 15 field goals. Burn that videotape, coach.

Mid Season Check in on the MVC.
Larry Bird isn't walking through the door, but Indiana State is currently in first place in the Missouri Valley conference, at 13-5, 6-1. The Sycamores have played a relatively soft schedule, with their best win probably being East Carolina, but they have done well in conference. Southern Illinois, Belmont, Bradley, and Northern Iowa, are all chasing behind at 5-2 in league play.
In case you are wondering about our former MCC/HL conference mates, I noted that Evansville, UIC, and Valpo are a combined 1-20 in league play so far this season.

UIC wasn’t that relevant in the Horizon the last 10-15 years so they will not be competitive in the Valley.

Sam, did you place a curse on the former MCC/Horizon members? I didn't, but apparently someone did!

Indiana State 13-7, 23-13 6. Missouri State 7. Murray State 8. Northern Iowa 9. Illinois State 10. Valpo 11. UIC 12. Evansville 1-19, 5-27 The top three teams in the preseason poll finished the season in the top three, although in a slightly different order. Bradley took first place, but fell in the conference tourney, and lost in the first round of the NIT to Wisconsin. Drake carried the MVC banner in the Big Dance, but fell to a very good Miami team in a tough battle. In all, five league teams won twenty games, although none of them played a particularly challenging non-conference schedule. The bottom of the league was held down by our former conference mates, each of which had brutal seasons. The MVC looks a lot different without Wichita State and Loyola.

Good for Indiana State. A little town in boring farmland of Southern IN. Does Larry Jr. play for them?
