Didn't realize this little tidbit. Could be a good year for the Badgers in 2016-17. They overachieved last season, especially after Ryan retired mid-season, but with Nigel Hayes withdrawing from the draft and returning to school, they look ready.
Jon Rothstein @jonrothstein 1h1 hour ago Wisconsin's 14-15 team returned four starters and wound up losing to Duke in the national title game. Next year's team will return five.

Northwestern is making significant renovations to their arena. www.nusports.com/news/2016/6/13/WRA_Renovation.aspxFrom the article: "A leadership gift from Patrick G. and Shirley W. Ryan, along with a $10 million gift from Stephen R. and Susan K. Wilson, donations from other loyal Northwestern benefactors and the existing athletics maintenance and equipment budget, will fund the $110-plus million project. A handful of new or renovated spaces in Welsh-Ryan are still available for naming."

Tough three days for the Big Ten. Tuesday featured IU's monumental loss to Fort Wayne, which also ensured that even fewer high majors will play at mid major sites. On the same night, Northwestern lost to Notre Dame in a game they almost literally gave away at the end. Wednesday night, Wisconsin and Michigan suffered 15 point losses to North Carolina and South Carolina, respectively. Michigan shot 19% from the floor, overall. On Thanksgiving, Michigan State lost to Baylor by 15 (common deficit in these games) after leading by three at the break, and Illinois was totally eviscerated by West Virginia, 89-57. (Not often I get to use the word "eviscerated".)
Going to be an interesting year in the Big Ten. There is some good talent returning, but lots of question marks. Big questions for the Big Ten:
Can Wisconsin stay at (or exceed) the Bo Ryan level without Bo Ryan? Can Michigan State survive a tough early season schedule, injuries to two expected front line contributors and a lot of inexperience and still be rounding into form in late season as Tom Izzo teams often do? Can Purdue make some real noise in the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2010? Can Tim Miles, Richard Pitino, and Jon Groce win enough games to keep their jobs? Is this the year Northwestern finally makes the NCAA tournament?
The Sporting News picks the Big Ten this way: Wisconsin Purdue Michigan State Indiana Michigan Illinois Maryland Iowa Northwestern Ohio State Penn State Minnesota Nebraska Rutgers
