Minnesota, the surprise of the Big Ten, cracks the top 25 rankings. With several league teams experiencing down years so far (MSU, Michigan, Ohio State, etc.) the Gophers can make a move this year.

Ohio State head coach Thad Motta announced that he is retiring. The timing is curious, but Motta has been experiencing health issues.
That should be a job that attracts good candidates.

Matta is only about 50 years old, maybe not even that. The Bucks have missed the NCAA tournament the last two years. Last year was the first time in his head coaching career at Butler, Xavier, and OSU that his team failed to win 20 games.

The Big Ten reportedly plans to move from an 18 game league schedule to a twenty game league schedule. I've always said if your league can't have each team play every team in the conference twice in basketball, you've got too many teams in the league. (Obviously that view is not shared by the powers that be in college sports.) This won't remedy that, but hopefully it will help eliminate situations like Purdue/Indiana and Michigan/Michigan State taking place only once during the regular season. The AAC is moving to a twenty game schedule, also. Of course, this is another situation that will negatively impact mid majors and it lessens the number of buy games that will be available for the teams that make money that way. www.fanragsports.com/news/rothstein-big-ten-programs-preparing-20-game-league-schedule/

Lindy's Preview predicts the 2017-18 Big Ten this way: MSU NW Minnesota Purdue Michigan Maryland Wisconsin Iowa OSU PSU Illinois Indiana Rutgers Nebraska No surprise that the Spartans are ranked that high, but the high rankings of Minnesota and Northwestern give an indication of another down year for traditional Big Ten standouts such as Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio State. Nebraska is expected to continue finding their level after a surprise NCAA tournament bid a few years ago. I won't mind seeing Nebraska finish in last place; their head coach made an unprofessional crack about Tubby Smith on social media last year and, as anyone who knows me can tell you, I can hold a grudge forever. www.btpowerhouse.com/2017/9/6/16257940/65-days-big-ten-basketball-lindys-preseason-conference-ncaa-predictions-michigan-state-spartans
