Arizona keeps suffering self inflicted wounds. From the Twitterverse:
Adam Zagoria @adamzagoria
Arizona BB statement: "Arizona sophomore men’s basketball forward Ira Lee was cited and released for driving under the influence on Saturday, August 18. The incident has been referred to the Dean of Students for review under the University’s student code of conduct...'

After last season's disaster, the PAC 12 was hoping to recover this year, but the non-conference season has not been kind. The past few days, in fact, have been brutal.
Saturday, December 15: Utah lost to Kentucky by 27. Arizona State had to rally from a double digit deficit to beat a bad Georgia team. UCLA lost at home to Belmont. USC got beat by 11 by a middle of the pack Oklahoma team. Cal barely squeaked by Cal Poly by one. Arizona got held to 49 points by Baylor in a nine point loss. Washington got beat by 12 by Virginia Tech in a game that wasn't that close. Oregon State got beat by a Texas A&M team that came into the game at 3-4. Stanford trailed by five at the half to a 1-7 Eastern Washington team before taking over in the second half for a 16 point win.
Monday, December 17: Arizona State, the class of the PAC 12 so far, loses by 16 to Vanderbilt.
Incredibly, PAC 12 teams combined have only five victories over Power Five teams. In contrast, Houston of the American Athletic Conference has three wins over Power Five teams by themselves.
The Los Angeles PAC 12 teams are on shaky ground.
USC made the splash hire of the "hot, young, mid major coach" in 2013 when they hired Andy Enfield from FGCU, but he's only won 40% of his conference games, with only two NCAA tourney appearances and an NIT showing in his first five years. He's got two NCAA tourney wins, but one was a "first four" win. The Trojans have an excellent recruiting class committed for 2019, they are limping along at 5-5 right now with only the general bad condition of the rest of the conference giving them hope for this season.
UCLA paid a ton of money in salary and buyout for Steve Alford and all his baggage and the results have been less than expected. The Bruins have made the NCAA four times in Alford's five years, but haven't advanced past the Sweet 16 and last year got bounced out in a first four game. His seat is definitely getting warmer.

Should have waited before posting on the State of the PAC 12. USC lost to Santa Clara tonight.

Tonight's PAC 12 embarrassment: UCLA loses by 29 at Cincinnati. Cincy had walk ons in the game with 4 minutes to go.

It was a Good News/Bad News Saturday for the PAC 12.
Good News: Arizona State beat #1 ranked Kansas at home. ASU trailed much of the game, but had a strong comeback late. Kansas finally got burned after playing with fire in close games all year.
Bad News: Pretty much everything else. Arizona needed late game heroics to beat 3-8 UC Davis, 70-68. Washington State lost to San Diego. Stanford lost to San Francisco. Colorado, coming into the game at 8-1, lost to Indiana State. UCLA is taking some comfort in the fact that they only lost to Ohio State by 14, 80-66.

And, bam, just like that, it is being reported that UCLA fired Alford this morning.

Things are so bad in the PAC 12 that USC loses on a day it doesn't have a game.
From Jeff Goodman on Twitter:
"USC sophomore forward Jordan Usher, who had been suspended indefinitely for “conduct issues,” will transfer. The 6-foot-7 Georgia native was averaging 8.6 points and 3.7 boards in 24 minutes per game."
