UCLA's brutal season continues. The Bruins were up 17 at the half, and at one point were up 22, but lost at home to Utah, 93-92.

Washington squeezed past a bad Washington State team and won their twentieth game of the season. That is back to back 20 win seasons for the Huskies. They are thankful that the PAC 12 is putrid this year.
Funny thing. The PAC 12 is bad, and everyone knows it is bad. Yet people are praising the Huskies for beating these bad teams. Sports media is funny.

Today's edition of "Just How Bad is the PAC 12?"
Entering Thursday's action, the two best teams in the PAC 12 are first place Washington (13-1, 22-5) and second place Arizona State (10-, 19-8). So what happened? Washington lost to lowly Cal, who came into the game 0-15 in conference, 76-73. At least the Huskies kept it close. ASU lost to Oregon 79-51. The Ducks came into the game at 6-8 in conference.

The PAC 12 is struggling through the start of the offseason.
UCLA stumbled their way through an embarrassing coaching search, being rebuffed by Calipari, Dixon, and probably Beard, and then looking inept after refusing to pay the buyout for Barnes at Tennessee, before throwing a ton of money at Mick Cronin to get him to leave Cincinnati. Cronin is a good coach, but he hasn't been out of the first weekend of the NCAA tournament since 2012. Steven Alford, who the Bruins fired during the season, made the Sweet Sixteen three times in his five and a half years there.
Cal fired their coach after only two seasons and came up with the relatively unimpressive hire of former Georgia coach Mark Fox. Fox made two NCAA tournaments in nine years as the head coach in Athens, and was one and out both times.
I heard a conversation on a sport radio program that suggested that the PAC 12 could raise their profile and improve their league by adding Gonzaga. Times have changed!

UCLA hired former Bruin Rod Palmer as an assistant coach. Palmer is the founder of one of the top AAU programs, the Compton Magic.

"Chasing Ghosts" focuses on the biggest ghost of them all: John Wooden. Crazy thing about UCLA. They have a bunch of fans and alumni who are just nuts. I know some of them. One of them told me that Howland should have been fired because he played a boring style. The man went to three straight Final Fours, and got fired after a season in which he won the PAC 12 conference title. Go figure. www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/26596290/ucla-escape-shadow-john-wooden

UCLA has everything in place to be a successful program, but they don't seem to be able to get out of their own way...sounds familiar.

Washington pulled in a five star recruit when Jaden McDaniels of Seattle committed for the class of 2019. The Huskies have a great class coming in for next season.

Arizona State mined the JUCO ranks for it's latest recruit, 6-9 forward Khalid Thomas from the College of Southern Idaho. Thomas originally committed to Texas Tech, but was given his release.
ASU has three JUCO players in this class.

Oregon adds another transfer as Rutgers junior forward Eugene Omuruyi commits. He averaged 14 and 7 for Rutgers last season. He's a sit one/play one transfer, but I'm sure Oregon will be trying to obtain a waiver for him.
