I usually like to get local players when all else is equal, but the main thing is getting players. I trust Coach Davis on building a team more than I trust some dudes on social media who will never come close to the coaching accomplishments that Coach Davis has reached. Besides, haven't we been talking for a while about how the recruiting pool in Detroit has shrank.
And the guy talking about Central getting "Lil J", is he talking about Jermaine Jackson, Jr.? Does he not realize that JJJ signed with Detroit out of high school? Is there anyone who is a Titan fan who wanted JJJ back this season?
I think it's a good idea to have someone with local ties on your coaching staff, but it's not a requirement. It might be more vital in a place where the local recruiting pool is like Detroit's was in the 80s.

BTW and FYI: Davis' director of basketball operations is a Cass Tech grad who grew up on the east side.

There is an interesting thought that we shouldn't avoid making contact and pursuing the better Michigan players each year, just because with the way the portal is and grad transfers you never know who might boomerang back and be in MI for a year or two. Then again, the coaches probably have already considered this and aren't wowed by my insight here

Then again, the coaches probably have already considered this and aren't wowed by my insight here There's something to that. I believe that was part of Coach Ray's consistent recruitment of Cassius Winston and some others. And I think Coach Watson commonly did the same thing. I think it's less fruitful now, though. In decades past, a player would struggle at a high major and his transfer destination would be a mid major, often in his hometown. These days, a guy who finds out in his first couple of years that he's not high major material just decides that he's in the wrong high major situation and transfers to another high major. DJ Harvey is an example of that. Would have loved to get him right after he left Notre Dame, just like I would have loved to get Brandon Kearney right after he left Michigan State back in the day. But, yeah, it costs nothing but time to stay connected to the better players in the State, just to maintain a good relationship if they hit the portal. It would help if we were winning regularly and our tourney appearances weren't ten years ago. I think our NCAA and NIT appearances helped us land guys like Kearney and Chris Jenkins.

Is there anyone who is a Titan fan who wanted JJJ back this season? The news today about JJJ is exactly why I wasn't interested in trying to get him to come back once he hit the portal.

The Jackson’s do not deserve mentioning on here unless it’s a separate topic trashing them.
