With a championship already on his resume and continued strong recruiting classes, Kevin Ollie is showing that UConn is in the right hands.

Jarring to see Memphis picked 9th. Yeah, they are ripping off the band aid and rebuilding (pardon the mixed metaphor) at Memphis this year. They lost three starters to transfer and a few others, and only return two players with D1 experience. Last year's team was really talented, but it ended up being a toxic mix, with some player who bought into what Coach Smith was doing, and some who didn't. Those who didn't included the sons of an assistant coach holdover from the previous regime. Those players and that coach are gone now, so we'll see what happens with what should be a better mix, made up of players who have all committed to Coach Smith. I think they will finish higher than ninth. I think people are underestimating Coach Smith, as they did in 2016 when his Texas Tech team was picked to finish dead last in the Big 12 and made the NCAA tournament. Memphis added some very talented JUCO players and three high school players with legit Power Five offers. They will be deeper, if less talented at the top of the roster. It will be tough to get them all blended together and settled in their roles, but I look for the team to have a winning record in 2017-18 and be a postseason threat in 2018-19.
