Looking at the people we reportedly offered in 2019, I'm not impressed. Almost none of these guys had much impact this year, including the jucos and grad transfers. That rattles my confidence a bit in the staff's ability to evaluate talent. And even then, these guys all turned us down. Recruiting is really hard at Detroit, but Ray's team had a great eye for talent and they got some pretty talented players to come. But Coach Davis has said publicly that our current team is a bunch of guys with no other offers.
This year will be Coach's third class at Detroit. I always give coaches a bit of a pass on that first class, when they're hired in the spring, and especially in this case, when Coach was hired in mid-summer. Still, so far the talent level is below what Ray and even Bacari were bringing in, and that's concerning.

It's crazy how really none of those guys made an impact in their frosh campaign. Sure, you know it takes time for some guys to find their way at the next level but players can play and will eventually. For what its worth, as a freshman Corey Allen played 31 min per game averaging 14 points and 2 assists per game. I don't expect all Frosh to come in and do that, or what AD did, but we should be pursuing guys that will have some kind of meaningful impact.

I agree and thanks for the synopsis, this staff should at least be able to get one or two recruits from the city of Detroit/metro area. I wouldnt expect the staff to land Beverly, it would be hard to get him to reject an offer from an ACC school, it would also probably be difficult to convince Friday to turn down an offer from the Ivy league. It also would've been difficult to pry Gardner away from Georgetown. However, we should've been able to land at least two or three of the following players. I would've preferred McCaskill, Taylor and Thomas. -Carrington McCaskill, 6-6 SF, Detroit Renaissance. Florida Atlantic. Played in just 6 games, none after November. Could be injury redshirt, but a quick search didn't find reference to injury. - Donovan Moore, 6-3 G, West Bloomfield - Toledo. Played in just 8 games, little impact. Has entered transfer portal. - Brian Taylor, 6-5 G/F, Detroit Edison. UIC. 3.0 points, 1.1 rebounds in 26 games. Looked good at times, but UIC was riding their seniors this year. Taylor may get a good shot next year. -Jalen Thomas, 6-10 C, UD Jesuit. - Georgia State. Played in all games, 17.7 mpg, 5.7 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 1.3 bpg. The Sunbelt Conference doesn't name an all-freshman team, or he would have been on it. He also would've helped us a lot, I think, but UD Jesuit kids don't come to UD. -Chandler Turner, 6-5 SG, Detroit Renaissance. - Bowling Green. Played a total of about 70 minutes in 12 games, averaging 2.3 points and 1.5 rebounds.

2019 G Jeremiah Francis from Pickerington Central high school in Ohio has been offered Francis, who has suffered debilitating knee injuries since his junior year of high school, announced his intention to transfer from North Carolina. His health is the only question mark with him.

His health is the only question mark with him. He played half decently this year once finally getting some time, and after being thrust into some minutes due to the mass injuries. He was a feel good story this year, and even his senior year of hs when he got hurt again and Carolina kept his scholarship offer in place.

They already have 2 Pinkerington guys on their roster. I think he was once considered the best guard prospect in Ohio. Might be better than most at 80%.

Made me sad when he got hurt again, him and the other freshman guard. Hope they both recover fully.

Francis to New Mexico Apparently it came down to New Mexico and Dayton. I was hoping he was going to pick Dayton.
