I am not suggesting poor facilities is the excuse for this year's recruiting even though the majority of those who post in this thread seem to think that is what I meant. My point about facilities has always been that if you want any coaching staff to be able to compete on a more level playing field for 3 and 4 star recruits, we need better facilities. That is a longer range goal than the recruiting class for 2020-21. It was never going to be fixed completely for this year; but what quick fixes that could have been made are on hold until the school re-opens and the bureaucratic facilities improvement process restarts. It's very disappointing that we do not yet know of any verbal commitments by any players for this Spring recruiting period. We are recruiting for targeted roster spots as opposed to trying to fill half the roster. It likely does not help our efforts when the news repeats daily that the city of Detroit is a virus hot spot. For some players, I suppose that AD is a plus. For others who want to be "the guy," AD is likely a minus. I don't know every player whom we are recruiting. And I don't know where on our priority list, each known offer ranks. I don't know how many players on our list are waiting for the dead period to be lifted so they can take an official visit here in June. It's certainly frustrating not to know because of the urgency of turning things around. And because under normal circumstances, we'd likely have some signings to announce this week if we had been able to bring in some players for visits. I'm worried, but I'm also confident that when the dust settles in May, we will have landed 3 good new players. I tend to think that we wouldn't be offering everyone with a pulse if we had some pretty sure things waiting in the wings to commit during their May/June visit. It was only a matter of time before COVID turned into the scapegoat. If a player decides to commit to Milwaukee, Stony Brook or Oakland for fall enrollment rather than UDM because as of April 14th "the city of Detroit is a hotspot"... then I'd suggest that player wasn't smart enough to qualify academically in the first place.

Cook County (Chicago) currently has approx 16000 cases vs Wayne County (Detroit) with just over 12000 cases - yet UIC has 3 commits in the past 1 1/2 weeks. NYC has tragically suffered 10000 covid deaths, yet Iona (approx 25 miles away) is signing good players left and right (with a new coach on very short notice). Covid is simply a weak excuse for poor recruiting (so far)

As I concluded, it's disappointing not to learn yet of any verbal commitments when other schools have some. And we need a good recruiting year in order to improve. So, I'm just going to shut up and not engage in discussion or share any more information here for a while. There's too much else more important going on in the world to compound that stress with the overwhelming negativity here. Good luck to all and stay healthy.

Pointing out facts is only negative when the situation being discussed is a negative. Write that down. 😉

FYI, in response to the coronavirus pandemic, there are new dates for prospective athletes signing their NLI’s during 2019-2020 and enrolling in the 2020-2021 school year.
The Division 1 Basketball Regular Signing Period, originally scheduled between April 15-May 20 still begins today but the end date has been extended until August 1, 2020.
Hopefully with the onset of the signing period some apples will begin to fall from the tree soon for the Titans, but with the extended signing period and current limitations on campus visits, commitments might still be slow in coming together.

If I had to GUESS, I'd bet a few of the Canadian players we have offered will eventually commit to us - PROBABLY Tarig Eisa, 6-8 SF, Oakvlle, Ontario (Gillette JC) AND Marquell Fraser, 6-3 G, Hamilton, Ont. (Grad Transfer from Idaho). OR MAYBE Amir Gholizadeh, 6-6 G, Toronto, Chicago State transfer AND Josiah Tynes, 6-3 G, Halifax, Nova Scotia (Santa Fe JC). The mystery is what big guys or forward will commit - I'm thinking a High school wing and maybe another JUCO/Grad transfer big man with underwhelming numbers.

Not exactly a who's who of sought after D1 recruits. Outside of Fraser, that bunch doesn't / didn't create much buzz.
I doubt you're wrong, Scout... but I hope you're wrong. 🙂

We know that publicly stated offers aren't terribly accurate--they are often out-of-date, or inaccurate to begin with, and they are only part of the iceberg. That said, on page 1 of this thread I've got 27 publicly reported offers that are hanging out there. Only 2 of them can really be said to be big men--low post players and lane fillers. Those are Allen Udemadu, and Aundre Polk. I can't find much on either's recruitment (not just by us, but by anyone) from the last year, other than that Western Kentucky fans thought they were pretty hot on Udemadu. Both had multiple offers listed at Verbal Commits and 247 Sports, but nothing new appearing recently for Udemadu, whose last entry is the Titan offer from July 2018. Udemadu attends Houston Yates, located within a 10 minute walk of Texas Southern University. Polk is from Detroit.
There are a couple other players on the list who go 6-7 and 6-8, but from what I can tell there are no real bangers on the list, except perhaps Clint Wickliffe, a 6-7, 225 lb. juco player we offered last fall. He has no other reported offers thant I can find.
Nothing to do but wait and hope. We haven't won a recruiting battle since Bacari got a commitment from Adrian Nelson, now a starter at NKU. (Perhaps I shouldn't say that--transfers Miller and Maxwell may have had other options last spring).

At this point Davis & Company are just trying to fill out the roster. The frustrating part is that we have to endure two more seasons of Mike Davis ranting and raving up and down the sidelines, cursing referees out, cursing his players out, cursing fans out, and allowing AD to shoot the ball whenever and from wherever he wants. It's sad that Robert Vowels had to beg and plead with Mike Davis for 6 weeks to convince him to leave Texas Southern and accept a 70% pay raise, give his namesake a 6 figure gig and also allow his baby son to be the face of the program. Kudos to Mike Davis.
