RBJ will be happy with the news that we are recruiting Ohio. :-) And I agree. That's a fertile recruiting ground and we should be mining Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois pretty hard.

Mark Wise was ranked #14 and Smith #15 in Ohio's Class of '20 by Prep Hoops Ohio. Wise is #20 and Nekhi Smith #42 in the Ohio Class of '20 by Ohio Hoops, but those rankings appear to predate the summer AAU season, where Smith impressed. Another scouting service, Triple Double, ranks Wise as the #2 SG guard in his Ohio class, and Smith the #6 small forward.
Wise is a combo guard who averaged 16.5 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 3.7 assists last year. Deer Park went 29-0 and won the state Division III championship this year, the first Division III team to go undefeated since LeBron James led his Akron St. Vincent team in 2000. (Ohio has 7 divisions, with D-I being the largest schools.) Wise has offers from Florida Atlantic and Kent State. Wise's teammate last year, senior Damani Mcenteer, was offered by Texas Southern before Davis left to come to Detroit, so Davis presumably has some pre-UD knowledge of Wise. Prep Hoops Ohio writes, "As always Wise routinely got to the rim off dribble penetration but he also showed a willingness to post-up smaller defenders and put them in the bucket. Mark is also getting better at finishing through contact and with his left hand in traffic."
Re Smith, Prep Hoops Ohio wrote this summer, "Rapidly improving athlete who combines elusive moves with power to finish inside. Raw talent who will be very hard to stop when he puts it all together (finishing, jumper, handle, passing), which he shows flashes of at every tournament." A different Prep Hoops scout wrote three weeks earlier, "This rising junior can flat out score the basketball, and he is starting to do it in a variety of ways. Smith can already score in pick and pop situations and in the paint, but showed a much, much improved handle on Saturday. He regularly used both ball fakes and dribble moves to get good shots in the paint." Prep Hoops now has him in its Top 25 in Ohio's Class of '20. He has recently transferred to Taft from a smaller school, and should see better competition this year.

From Steve Bell on Moore:
Jayshawn Moore 6-4 Jr Ferndale: He, senior guard Tariq Shepherd and soph point guard Simon Wheeler are major additions to Ferndale, following coach Juan Rickman from East English Village. Moore looked like a top 5 prospect in 2020. His on ball skills are improving. Looks more confident in lead role. He’s shown in the past he can be a really good role player, but he is now showing that he can step into a lead role and excel. Comfortable finishing with his left. Drove and kicked to shooters. Shot goes in but needs more consistency and to get it quicker. Tons of upside because of great length and intriguing frame. Could still be growing. Looks like Rickman’s next high-major guard recruit.

Lorne Bowman, a 2020 Detroit kid playing at Orchard Lake St. Mary's, verbally committed to Wisconsin. He had a final four of Wisconsin, Valpo, Nebraska, and Iowa.

Re Shumate, Lewis is an extremely good D-II program. He's only a junior so more D1 offers on likely in store.

Might not get finalized in time for a player in the 2020 class to see a D1 game, but it is happening and Lewis will invest heavily in MBB. HL possible landing spot.
