Interesting that Ottrix committed. So far as I can tell, he has no other D-1 offers. Typically, a kid in that position (just finished junior year) hopes to play well on the summer AAU circuit and see the offers come rolling in. But I presume the summer AAU circuit looks pretty iffy right now. It could be that Ottrix just liked what he saw and decided UD's where he wants to be, and that would be great. But I wonder if with the likely absence of an AAU season we'll see more rising seniors make early verbal commits to the ones that already love 'em.

From Prephoops Ohio: 2021 Bryon Ottrix Jr. has committed to Detroit Mercy. The Glenville PG is ranked 64th in our 2021 rankings. (If these rankings are anything like their sister site, Prephoops Michigan, then they were done prior to this past basketball season)

I'm not sure if we were even interested, but it's a shame he didn't come here. He's a star in the making and has a 4* name

Wonders is very good. I'm sure UP would be happy to tell you all about him. Probably the second best Class C player in the state after Jalen Terry. We should probably offer... as we've offered every one else who plays basketball.

It's rare when the UP produces a player that isn't a prototypical PG with a traditional PG sized body. That is what makes Wonders and Whitens special in that regard. I played basketball up there with some of the best 6'2" power forwards you've ever seen. Not exactly players that can translate to D1.

I'd venture to say that all of the D1 coaches that have (and will) offer Wonders a scholarship would disagree with that assessment. I can't possibly see how anyone could declare our guy better... other than because he's our guy.
I'd think that the extra 5" that Wonders gives you at the off-guard position more than breaks the tie. No offense to Liedel, as I truly hope he does well here and he deserves the accolades he's received, but we've seen players like him before. We need to hope he pans out at this level. I don't think you need to say the same about Wonders.
I think there is a big question on whether or not Joe can get his shot off in even a "down" Horizon League. I hope he can.

I have been watching Wonders since 8th grade. He is extremely disciplined and a smart player. He is really slow a foot and can not elevate. He is not a guard but more a small forward without lift and an extremely unfluid running motion. Obviously the D1 coaches who are offering think he can play. He does have a lot of intangibles and a great family. I would bet Liedel would win a tip against Wonders. I hope I am wrong but I can see Wonders having a lot of physical problems in the future. As far as Joe getting his shot off, his release is very quick and he has extended range. He looks to have a quicker release than Brad and seems to be a better without having to set his feet. I will be surprised if Joe does not see a lot of floor time as a Frosh. I do not think we have seen players like him before at UD. The closest I can think of is AD and he has done quite well. Plus Joe wants to be a Titan and wants to go to UD.

The state of Titan basketball has devolved to a point where we are debating who the best Yooper basketball players are and whether or not they’d be interested in playing for Detroit Mercy.

Plus Joe wants to be a Titan and wants to go to UD. First off, I've only watched Liedel in highlight videos. One thing I noticed in those highlight videos is that he's never touched the rim with his hand. I'm not sure why you'd think he'd get the tip over anybody... let alone someone 5 inches taller. I'd project them both as 2-guards in college, with Wonders being oversized at the spot and Liedel being undersized. I don't see either of them having very quick releases (I don't know why you posted that about Joe), so the 5" that Foster has would definitely help at the next level. Joe's range looks to be better, though both are excellent 3-point shooters... so I'm not sure that matters much. I say that because I'm hoping I don't have to watch anyone chuck up a 30-footer on the regular. I've seen that enough with AD and JJJ over the past few years. I think the x-factor for Liedel will be ball handling. I'm hoping he can provide support there, though that remains to be seen.
