Siena's opening is new so we'll set them to the side for a moment.
Chicago State is just a mess right now, and just earlier this week filled their open AD position. Obviously its tough to hire a coach without an AD.
Delaware State has an interim AD, and like us doesn't really have much to explain why a coach hasn't been hired.
So this is the company we are keeping at this time with our still open head coach position.
Our search for a new head coach sits at 25 days, and a full 49 days since the end of the Titan season. Note, only 7 schools took longer than 25 days to fill their opening but also note that ALL of those situations had head coaches named by April 5 - the date that recruiting re-opened. Our approach to this head coach opening is SUCH an outlier at this point. AD Vowels better be prepared to pull a rabbit out of the hat OR have lots of engagement and communication with what the plan is for Men's Hoops.

I would think we would have a new coach by the end of the week - right? I mean how much longer could the AD possibly take? Speaking of the new Coach - at this point, we really don't have a clue as to which way they are going to go. An Assistant from another school; an up and coming low major Coach; a Detroit area returner; a former pro player; another alumni??? Lindsey Hunter kind of sticks out (just a hunch) as a real possiblility, but who knows... If the AD gig doesn't work out for Vowels, maybe he could find a 2nd career in the spy business because he's terrific at keeping secrets An end of the week hire certainly seems reasonable, if not imperative. Time is moving by quickly. Recruits are signing, transfers are finding new spots, assistant coaches are taking new jobs. I don't gamble, but if I was a betting man, I would think we will have someone in place by Friday. You could get Colonel Sanders to give up his secret recipe before you could get Robert Vowels to provide information on the coaching search. Well, Friday, April 20 came and went without an announcement on a new coach, so I was once again wrong and disappointed. On the plus side, it was my birthday and I was surprised with a gift basket full of chocolates at work. Guess you can't have everything. Seriously, when are we going to hire our coach??? |
