More progress made today! One issue to work out: UD can't be Adidas if Pitino comes. Pitino loves the idea of being the biggest thing at UD since Vitale.
You throw a fit You think I'm a troll But I be legit! The Calihan Mole

One question...
If we get Pitino on staff, where will all the hookers stay? East Quad?
Sorry, low blow but it sounded funny in my head.
I actually wouldn't be opposed to hiring Pitino. He is a big name that would bring with it increased coverage for the school. At minimum, I think he could get the program properly positioned during his time here for the next guy. Then, the "next guy" would turn into the most important hire in program history, in my opinion.
Maybe Vowels can get the Pitino deal done and then immediately start the search for his replacement? Then, we won't be handcuffed a few years down the road. 😂
All that said, Id be surprised if Pitino ends up at Detroit Mercy. The validity of Mole's posts are questionable, even if they rhyme. 😉

In spycraft, a mole is an enemy agent, a double agent, who is actually working against the interests of his/her apparent employer. Did Calihan Mole realize this when he chose his screen name? Or is he really referring to a sauce used in Mexican cuisine?
On the other hand, to channel Dan LeBatard. "Papi, are you intrigued about the thought of Pitino coaching at Detroit Mercy?" Papi: "Si, si. I am intrigued."
I have a feeling that we will know the answer on this one in short order.

The only reason I think this talk may be true is from the length of time the search has been going on, and with the lack of rumors regarding current interviews. There has been about a week gap from our last reported interview (LaFleur), and that even turned out to be false. Vowels must be doing something during this time... right?

If Pitino isn't the guy (still highly doubtful), I hope Lindsey Hunter is our guy. He coached half a season in the NBA as an interm coach, and would at least draw some interest. I think we would also have a good shot at keeping Josh with his hiring.

Someone that has been a HC with a good record. The longer we wait the more this program needs it. If we only get an assistant coach again i will assume that there is little value to this program in the eyes of professionals. It really hurts me to say that.

Well, we are approaching the end of the week. I think general consensus on the board was that we expected a hire in the next couple of days. I'll start crossing my fingers now.

It's long been common for mid-majors to hire assistants from bigger programs. Dick Vitale; Perry Watson and Ray McCallum, the three most successful Titan coaches of the past 45 years, all were assistants at higher major programs, and for Vitale and Watson it was their first head coaching job. I agree, though, that I would prefer someone who has had proven success as a head coach.

Given the rumors of a rift between BA and JJ Sr., I found this quote that Bacari re-tweeted a bit ironic.
Brian D. StanchakVerified account @bdstan · Jan 7
As an Assistant Coach, whether your team loses a single game or have lost a lot so far, your attitude should never be more negative than your Head Coach
Your job is to bring the same level of positivity & energy each & every good & bad day the program may have

The author of that Tweet is an agent for many coaches. He specializes in women's BB coaches. He is Bernard Scott's agent. I think that Bacari is looking to land an assistant's position because he changed his Twitter profile to add "Division 1" before coach. But, it is ironic, isn't it?

I wasn't familiar with Mr. Stanchak. Bacari will likely do well in an assistant's role. Given the fact that he is taking a nice chunk of cash with him from the Titan gig, he can be selective about his next opportunity and find a spot under a coach who can help develop him for future opportunities. Hope it works out for him.
