We'll probably never know what exactly happened behind the scenes this past season. I get the impression that the Coaches were divided and sending different message to the players and the different Coaching factions had "their players". I was thinking maybe my impression was formed by certain repeated postings on the other Board which painted a lot of conflict on the team, but various tweets by BA after the season ended insinuated that there were multiple messages and divided culture in the locker room and he was going to fix it (remove coaches?). I also thought the team played better under JJ than BA (and therefore we won games at a better percentage). Mostly, some of the players looked miserable during the season - it showed on their faces, in their body language and often in their effort.
All of this is what makes the current and future situation so difficult to figure out. Was BA a weak and incapable coach? Was JJ a backstabber in the player's and AD's ear? By removing BA and possibly JJ, what players are loyal to what coaches and will move on? How can we avoid this whole mess from happening again? Maybe this whole thing never happened and I'm having a Titan related nightmare?
The next few weeks should be extremely interesting.....

I cant quite put my finger on exactly what went wrong during Alexanders short tenure. My mind always returns to the package deal he made with the Chatmans. If this package deal handnt occurred, maybe Alexander would have hired a capable 3rd assistant who would have been interested in coaching the whole team rather than just his son. Team chemistry would have been better, and maybe we would have won a few more games. I am not questioning Canaan Chatmans coaching abilities,or his credentials. The deal didnt feel right.

If that happens, it would leave us with a returning scholarship roster of: Blackshear McFolley Long Eichler and possibly, but probably not, Tariq Jones. And I don't think it's guaranteed that McFolley and Blackshear would stay. Add to that a relatively late hire for a coach--not super late, but not in front of the curve, either--making late recruiting tough. Wow. Compare that to the roster that BA had waiting for him when he took over. What a difference.
McFolley, Blackshear and T. Jones all played under JJ when he coached at Mount Clements. So I think if rumors are true about JJ getting rid of him . If JJSR gets another college coaching job you might see McFolley, Bleackshear, TJ, JJJr and Jack leave since they have ties with him. Next year the roster might look more like Cole Long, Malik Eichler, Jacob Joubert, Bass Ollie, Ed Carter. This might be the reason why they are keeping this so tight lip on it. Personally I think with the right coaching staff I would like to see this line up if Bleakshear and McFolly stay: Blackshear Eichler Long Bass Ollie McFolly Maybe remove Eichler from the line up and put Ed Carter or Jacob in and move Long into the 4 spot since that is how the last coaching staff utilized him last year. This line up would be more athletic and could run harder. With this line up I feel could at least be close to .500 in conference maybe better with the right staff.

I assume Blackshear and McFolley will have limited options, especially the former, unless JJ leaves AND lands a head coaching job somewhere. A school will have to give up 2 years of scholarship for 1 year playing. Blackshear has been injured enough he'd be a gamble. McFolley would probably have more options. But you're definitely right, they might go, too. We could have literally 2 returning scholarship players and a head coach not hired until May 1, three weeks into the regular signing period. Signing period begins a week from today and runs through May 16.

I still think JJ would have been a pretty awesome recruiter--I wish he'd been given the chance over Bacari. But as the Superintendent at Dakota said, he comes with a lot of drama.

JJ was our recruiting coordinator under Bacari. True. And a) Bacari recruited pretty well in the end (JJJ, Ballantyne, Nelson, Hightower), and b) the head coach makes a big difference. I would think that is the bigger thing for most recruits.

Jermaine doesn't stay anywhere for long, and he is not exactly moving up the career ladder.

How odd. But I suppose at this point he's moved/lost so many jobs in very short windows of time that it's just a feature of employing JJSr.
I feel a bit worse that through his 'management', the career of JJJ has seemingly come to a screeching halt after 1 year of pretty good NCAA ball.
I'm not piling on, I liked JJSr as a player and as a Titan. But he has taken on many unforced errors to his own brand/reputation since his NBA career ended.

What is going on with JJJ? I had heard from a relatively reliable source during the season that he was attending a Michigan JUCO this past year but not playing, but from all indications he has completely dropped off the radar. Gotten to the point where I am just hoping the kid is okay.

Despite the team's struggles and his own individual struggles at times in 2017-18, he had what most would consider a very promising freshman season. Seems like he would have been a hot property on the transfer market last year, but it seems like he didn't even make himself available for consideration. I always had the feeling that JJ was going to try to leverage one of those Detroit kids he got to follow him to Spire for college coaching job somewhere. But looking at it now, if you were a college AD, how much confidence would you have in a coach with JJ's background?
