I thought the font sizes used on these shirts was interesting given how the school wants to brand “Detroit Mercy.” I believe the University was handing these out to newly accepted students. View AttachmentYeah, that looks new. I can't remember any designs before where the Detroit was bigger than the Mercy. It's an improvement. Still wouldn't buy it, but it's a step in the right direction.

Maybe they will just keep reducing the font size for Mercy until it just disappears? Also, perhaps they could have gone with a darker shade of gray on the coloring for the “Mercy”

As someone said elsewhere on the board, it does seem as if the University leadership is waiting for the older alumni like me to go away so they don't have to hear the U-D talk. I wonder if they noticed the occasions this year when former Titan greats Willie Green (age 40)and Rashad Phillips (age 43), two guys who became Titans after the merger and name change, publicly referred to the school as simply "the University of Detroit".
It's not just the old people who recognize what the name of the school should be.

You should follow the CalihanMole on Twitter and take part in his current campaign to convince university leadership to change the name back.

I guess they just got tired of hearing “Oh, you’re part of that wonderful University of Detroit Mercy” and then having to sheepishly admit to the disappointed person they were talking to that, no, they aren’t but sure wish they were.

How does the "University of Detroit Trinity" sound to you? or the "Mercy University at Detroit". I think we're a long way from a "rebranding" name change or ever.

Even the hospital doesn’t want the Mercy brand but yet we are stuck with it. I’d laugh if it didn’t greatly diminish the reputation of our university, reduce the ability to compete in men’s basketball, and eff up all of our resumes.
This new university president needs to act.

The Mercy Hospital System may have been sold or merged into the Trinity System, I don't think there is a mass movement away from the Mercy "brand" that would involve the U of D.

Imagine if they had actually been misguided enough to change the name to St. Joseph's University Sciences. Anytime anyone saw the name they would think it was a separate entity from the esteemed St. Joseph's. They might think it was a satellite campus or simply a different organization with a similar name. And how would they fit it on a jersey?? Wouldn't surprise me if they looked at the branding mess we have and said, "Let's not make THAT mistake."

I see this guy had a no hitter last night - I wonder if he's also a victim of our failed branding
