The reports were that the Pistons and Beilein were in two way communication about the job. Friends who are Wolverine fans were legitimately concerned. Beilein didn't publicly respond, which is smart because you don't want to set a precedent of responding to every report out there. I would bet that Davis and his staff have already made the necessary contacts to the recruits and decision makers they are targeting. I just watched a video on line where the meeting and interest Beilein stated was mutual. He said he was interested because of the challenge and felt that he had talked to Brad Stevens and someone else about the move from college to professional and said if you had the right relationship with the front office it would work. The feeling was that his interviewing for a professional job might actually help in his recruitment of top level players. I am trying to see how these to situations we are discussing are relevant. One giving the spin of the inquiry being a plus in recruiting and in our situation I only fore see negative results.

Right, they’re not really analogous situations. With a guy like Beilein you pretty much expect other colleges and pro teams to consider poaching him. That’s part of the environment. What you typically don’t expect is a mid major coach with one year at his current school (and a losing season) to sign somewhere else. All I’m saying is that given the rumors about coach wanting the Houston job and with some people saying AD will get immediate eligibility (which I still doubt), and then the fact that SI reported coach threw his hat in the ring for the LSU job, it’s reasonable for UDM fans to start questioning the commitment of the Davis family to our program. One can’t help wonder if coach isn’t happy here and/or he’s trying to capitalize off AD’s success. And while maybe he won’t make a move this spring, who’s to say he won’t try next spring?
I hope all this turns out to be false rumors and an agent acting out of step with his client’s wishes. And I hope we get a good recruiting class. Just saying I’m a lot less comfortable with this coaching situation than I was a month ago.

They are comparable situations in that you have two coaches reportedly interested in exploring job opportunities elsewhere. In both cases reports were in the news and fans and recruits were aware of the reports. Titan fans as saying that Davis must make a statement denying his interest as if that is what normally happens, and I'm simply pointing out that less than a year ago, in this same market, Beilein made no such statement, even as the rumors swirled around. Davis isn't obligated by rule or history to say anything.
The idea that Beilein interviewing for the Pistons job would help his recruiting seems like a reach. Several Beilein coached players are in the NBA. He was coming off another Final Four appearance. Seems like Michigan has all the pieces it needs to recruit. I don't see how the whole "I'm interviewing for a pro job so I might not be here" sales pitch would help recruiting in any way.
Edit: I understand that the SI report causes concern and trepidation among the Titan faithful. I would much rather not be talking about it, and focusing on recruiting and scheduling news. I don't blame anyone for wishing that Davis would come out with a statement that he's committed to the Titans for the next several years and determined to bring the fans a championship. That would be nice. I just am not expecting it, so I won't be bothered if it doesn't happen. Now, if we don't get some good recruiting news in the next week or so, I'll be more antsy than I am now.

Take it for what it's worth and as always, weigh the reliability of the source:

Nice to know we have a coach that everyone seems to think should be at a more high profile program.

Weird, I don't see your link until I quoted you scout.
Anyone else not see his link?

Weird, I don't see your link until I quoted you scout. Anyone else not see his link? Sometimes it does that when you're linking a tweet. If I see a post that looks incomplete, I wait a few seconds and if nothing pops up, I refresh the page (sometimes 2x)

ESPN2 is re-airing a bunch of college basketball upsets from recent years tonight. Currently, 7pm Thurs, they're showing Texas Southern's 2014 upset of Michigan State in East Lansing.
That Texas Southern team was coached by Mike Davis.

Did anyone else notice 14 yr old Antoine Davis on the Texas Southern bench?

Consider the source, but when I 1st heard Alabama St was open, I thought of Davis. They're in the SWAC, same as Texas Southern, where he coached last and had success. Plus the Alabama connection - he previously coached at UAB

A move to Alabama St would be a step back for the Davis clan. First of all, if Coach were to go, then Antoine would go with him. I don't see that as a plus for his NBA aspirations. Coach, of course, would take his staff with him as he did when he arrived in Detroit. That would be addition by subtraction IiMHO. A new coaching staff could be filled by a younger, more energetic HC and staff could include Michigan and Metro Detroit oriented folk. Current staff all from Texas Southern plus Dildy. I don't like the idea of starting over for the 3rd time in 5 yrs but the results so far have fallen short of expectations.
