You know, I never started a thread here for Southeastern Conference basketball, and the only reason I can come up with is that I just don't like Kentucky. Oh, well, time to get past that, I guess.
Jon Rothstein put out his power rankings for the SEC yesterday.
SEC Offseason Power Rankings:
1. Tennessee 2. Auburn 3. Kentucky 4. Mississippi State 5. LSU 6. Florida 7. Alabama 8. Vanderbilt 9. Missouri 10. South Carolina 11. Ole Miss 12. Georgia 13. Arkansas 14. Texas A&M

It's not just Kentucky.....it's easy to dislike every school in that conference except Vanderbilt. I did like South Carolina back in the day with Coack Frank McGuire and ACC membership.

I liked Georgia when Dominique Wilkens was there. And it should go without saying that I was a Kentucky fan when Tubby Smith was the head coach.

Ben Howland, who had excellent success at Pitt and UCLA, is trying to bring Mississippi State to the higher levels of the SEC. He's 14-17, 16-16, and 25-12 in his three years at Starkville. Today, Miss State got a big verbal commitment from four star Jaykwon Walton in the class of 2019. I wonder if former Titan assistant Ernie Z had a hand in that recruitment. He's on staff there and has worked with Howland in several places. verbalcommits.com/players/jaykwon-walton

Less than 24 hours after committing to MSU, he de-committed. And strangely, his de-commitment was made public by his mother posting a message on social media claiming that she pushed her son to commit to Mississippi State, but then took herself out of the decision and told him he could make up his own mind. It's a weird situation. Cynics are claiming that some other program made the Waltons an offer they couldn't refuse.

Some SEC recruiting developments.
Florida keeps Florida native Omar Payne instate. He's rated 35 in the nation by ESPN.
Tom Crean reaches into Florida and gets a commitment from four star small forward Toumani Camara.

As the end non-conference season draws to a close, the SEC has gone mostly as expected. Tennessee has looked like the class of the league, sporting a 10-1 record and a #3 ranking. Auburn, Mississippi State, and Kentucky are all ranked in the top 20, with UK getting a much needed marquee win by beating UNC in their last game. South Carolina is the only team in the SEC with an overall losing record at this time, sitting at 4-7 with bad losses to Stony Brook, Wofford, and Wyoming, along with more understandable losses to Michigan, Clemson, Virginia and Providence.

Tennessee has won 18 straight games. That is the longest winning streak in the career of Coach Rick Barnes.
Kentucky appears to be rounding into form, with 10 straight wins.

Georgia is struggling, with a conference record of 1-9. However, Coach Tom Crean landed a big prize on the recruiting trail today, getting a commitment from guard Anthony Edwards. Edwards is rated #5 in the ESPN 100 class of 2019. He is the third member of the ESPN 100 to commit to Georgia in this class.
