John Rothstein on the SEC:
"The SEC had seven of its 14 teams play in the NCAA Tournament this season and just added Buzz Williams, Eric Musselman, and Nate Oats as head coaches. Big Boy Basketball."

Vanderbilt has now signed Kenyon Martin, Jr. He will join Scottie Pippen, Jr. in the 2019 class.
Looks like new coach Jerry Stackhouse is trying to turn Vandy into a..."junior" college. (Rimshot!)
Thanks, folks. I'm here all week.

Thanks, folks. I'm here all week. Kenyon Martin Jr. has decided to skip college and pursue a professional career. Kind of a surprise because no one considered him a future pro. It is a blow to Vanderbilt, which is trying to bounce back from an 0-18 conference record.

Per Jon Rothstein on Twitter:
"John Calipari's new contract with Kentucky will extend through the 2028-29 season and feature a salary between $8 and $9 million dollars annually during the life of the deal if he remains the Wildcats' head coach, per release."

Arkansas is the focus of this edition of Chasing Ghosts. There is an interesting account of the end of the Richardson tenure, which apparently stemmed from a clash of personalities between Richardson and Broyles, the AD. In retrospect (and at the time) it appears to be a mistake to let Nolan go. He made the NCAA tourney 9 of ten years at Arkansas before his final season with the Hogs, and was only 60 when they ran him out. The administration may have repeated that mistake by firing Mike Anderson this Spring. We'll see. www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/26919167/chasing-ghosts-arkansas-turn-page-nolan-richardson-era

Jon Rothstein posts his off season power rankings for the SEC.
SEC Offseason Power Rankings:
1. Kentucky 2. Florida 3. LSU 4. Mississippi State 5. Alabama 6. Auburn 7. Georgia 8. Ole Miss 9. Tennessee 10. Arkansas 11. Texas A&M 12. South Carolina 13. Missouri 14. Vanderbilt
Going to be an interesting season in the SEC. LSU and Tennessee, who finished 1 and 2 last season, will look different and UK will once again be heavily dependent on freshman. Missouri needs a good season to keep their coach off the hot seat. Frank Martin of South Carolina will probably be feeling the heat this season after 16-16 year. Frank seems to be a favorite among media members, but he's been at South Carolina for seven years with a NIT appearance and one First Four NCAA appearance with no NCAA wins.
