It may be a good thing for Titan basketball if transfer redshirt ruling is changed. Over the years, we have had far more incoming transfers than outgoing. And the elimination of the redshirt year for transfers will severely cripple the graduate transfer scenario as eligibility will be exhausted after 4 years.

The most common grad transfer is someone who redshirted either due to injury or a previous transfer--with the latter probably the most common. A typical profile is a guy sits on the bench one year at a high major; he transfers, sits, plays two at a mid-major, and then as a grad transfer re-enters the high major ranks. Without the transfer year, won't it just be Freshman -- sit on bench at high major Soph/Jr -- play mid major Sr -- transfer back to a high major? Plus you might see more mid-major stars nabbed after the soph or junior year. Now, if a high major wants them after the junior year, they have to offer two years scholarship for 1 year playing; but not if the transfer waiver rule goes by the boards. Or a player has to give up a year of eligibility if he wants to transfer after a redshirt sophomore year (because of the play 4 in 5 rule). If the transfer sit rule is gone he can transfer after that redshirt soph year without losing a year of eligibility. In other words, eliminating the redshirt year for transfers cripples the grad transfer scenario by making everyone the same as a grad transfer is now. That's much worse for mid-majors losing their stars to high majors.

Any word on Curry's eligibility? I asked on Monday at Dino’s and was told decision by the NCAA was still pending.

Definitely more going on than meets the eye in that Missouri vs Evansville situation, and probably more than the Mizzou hometown guy wants to admit. Wouldn't shock me if Evansville thought there was some tampering going on with Dru Smith prior to him receiving his release from Evansville, and if there was, I don't blame them for feeling salty about it. I remember when Jason C. abruptly announced he was leaving left the Titans as a grad transfer and was on a plane to Oregon the next day, I felt like there was some improper behind the scenes contact taking place. It's not a simple issue, of course. I don't want players to be unduly restricted, but I also don't want to see mid majors become farm systems for high majors.

Does anyone know if Harrison Curry will have one or two years of eligibility? Two, this year and next. I recall hearing it either on coaches radio show, or someone reporting it after asking the Athletic Director

He showed me something yesterday, and played better than I expected in his first action on the road in a hostile environment. I was pleased. Wish they would have cleared him in time for the start of the season.

Well thanks for originally reporting it, and for just confirming I'm not completely losing my mind and imagining news about the team.😀

I saw a lot to be encouraged about with him in his first action. If Brandon and Boe develop, and Curry is consistently productive, our front court prospects for next year look better.
