Final MAAC Standings for 2020-21.
Sienna 12-4, 12-5 Monmouth 12-6, 12-8 Iona 6-3, 12-6 Canisius 7-5. 7-6 Marist 10-8, 12-9 St. Peters 10-8, 14-11 Niagra 7-9, 9-11 Quinnipiac 7-10, 9-13 Fairfield 7-11, 10-17 Manhattan 6-12, 7-13 Rider 5-13, 6-17
Iona won the conference tournament and gave Alabama a tough battle before falling in the first round of the Big Dance to Alabama.
I've heard some Titan fans call for the team to move to the MAAC, but I don't know that it helps us. Certainly doesn't give us a more attractive opponent list to draw bigger crowds to home games. We'd be in a conference with schools that our similar to us, but it doesn't raise the profile of the basketball program. I don't think recruiting to the MAAC is easier than recruiting to the HL. On the other hand, and I say this without snark, Detroit Mercy sounds like the name of a MAAC school rather than the name of an A10 or Big East school (or even an HL school). It makes sense in that regard.

Lots and lots of Canisius fans have had it with Reggie Witherspoon as coach, but they can't afford to fire him. He's totally disengaged during games, with alumni and students, his best player is leaving and he's only signed two guys.
Supposedly some in the MAAC want Canisius and Niagara out, because of the long road trip to WNY. So I'm not sure UDM is right for that league. Unless it could get into the MAC as an affiliate, if the MAC ever loses a team, the current league seems like the best place.

Maybe those two WNY schools should join the Horizon?

I think the MAAC works better for their other sports. And they have some long-time rivals in that league.

Canisius's president announced he's retiring after this year. It will be interesting to see if the new president places more emphasis on athletics to help grow enrollment, etc. The program has really slipped under the current coach.

The MAAC/Atlantic Sun Challenge - that's a new one. Not sure if there's any demand or interest for it though

Monmouth head coach King Rice will receive a five year contract extension. Rice was Coach of the Year in the MAAC last season.

Pitino with another stand out recruit: Forward Sadiku Ayo committed, after being considered a likely recruit to Seton Hall or St. John's. He's from the Bronx and rated a three star recruit by 24/7. First recruit of the class of 2022 for the Gaels. 247sports.com/player/sadiku-ayo-46099537/

Canisius is an absolute train wreck and what fans still remain have had more than enough of Reggie Witherspoon. Money is tight, otherwise he would have been fired after last season; as a Golden Griffin fan I can't imagine he'll be back for another year.
