Which, by the way, makes it probable that at the start of next season he'll be the best returning soph. I do hope we can keep him for 2-3 more years, but we know today's reality. We'll have to see, and be sure to enjoy next year.

Think Lou Williams.

The question, will he decide its time to go pro after next season. We're in the strange position of wanting him to be really, really good, but not too good? Or maybe not--there are still a few kids who like college, just want to have that experience, and then go pro. But not many.

Folks, I was told at the horizon league tournament, if kelvin sampson goes to Alabama, expect Mike Davis to Houston and AD obviously with him. Because AD is a Walk-On he won’t need to sit out.

Except the speculation and rumor in the media does not have Alabama interested in Sampson; but it has Alabama interested in Davis.

Actually it's Arkansas and Sampson - as I posted yesterday (which would open up the Houston job)

ESPN on Sampson to Arkansas prospects, a place where he has ties to current AD:
“He will likely be the first call, but it's not a done deal that he takes it. Money isn't a problem at Houston, and Sampson and his family are comfortable there.”
Best case scenario for Detroit Mercy is Houston throws more bucks and contract extension at Sampson when the Cougars’ NCAA run ends, and he quickly affirms he’s not going anywhere.

My bad, they each start with A. And are in the SEC. If AD did have to sit out or they weren’t confident they could get a waiver, I could see them staying. The longer we go without a signing, the more I think this rumor has some legs.

The more you think about this rumor, the less likely it’s rooted in facts. No disrespect to Kirky at all, but for the rumor to have legs you have to believe:
* Sampson has had some kind of talks with people at Arkansas, Orlando Magic, or someone else and decided he will likely leave UH * Sampson then made that decision known explicitly or implicitly enough to cause the AD at UH to act and immediately start screening replacements * Mike Davis was one of those possible replacements and the UH AD was just so won over that he told Davis the job is his should Sampson leave UH * Mike Davis or someone very close to him leaked the information
That’s a lot to believe in during a time when coaches are vetted hard and fans expect some kind of process when hiring a new coach. Not to say that Davis probably doesn’t know the people at UH and have a great relationship with them, but I’d be surprised if they loved him so much that they promised him the job weeks before their coach left. Mike Davis is a good coach, but he’s not that good. Houston has been ranked pretty much all year and in the Sweet 16 now. They’d draw interest from lots of great coaches.
This sounds like the kind of rumor that spreads because there are little nuggets that make you think “maybe” (coach being from Houston, Antoine originally committed to UH). I can see how the rumor took off at a rather dull HL tourney in a rather empty arena. I just don’t think it’s likely. If coach does leave I sure hope we get Pitino this go around!

The longer we go without a signing, the more I think this rumor has some legs. Even in today's environment, there's absolutely no basis for a waiver for Davis; and yes, a walk-on still has to sit after transferring. But I don't want them to stay as hostages. I want them to stay to rebuild the program.
