Social media mathematicians are projecting that UCLA will not be able to maintain the 930 threshold for the 2020-21 season.

Here are some questions to ask Coach Davis and/or AD Vowels at dinner tomorrow evening:
1. Recruiting.....do we have any signed letters of intent or verbal commits for next season. If you cannot release names, can you give other details? Such as height, position, grad transfers, JUCO, HS .
2,. Can Davis or Vowels explain the APR scenario and the penalty involved. Will an appeal be made?
3. Can Vowels give us his comments re the transfer portal and the effect that wholesale transfers appear to be having on lower and mid major programs? The lower programs outnumber the P6 schools in Div 1 by 3 to 1, yet decisions seem to be made for the benefit of the big boys.

No decision has been made yet on waiver of tournament ban, but the University remains highly optimistic for chances of favorable determination.

Detroit News article on transfer portal. Quotes Mike Davis and Greg Kampe. Link to article. From the article, this implies that Hamrick transferred so he could try and play in the NCAA tournament. As for the Titans, Davis points out his team lost another player after the postseason ban was determined. The player will try to make the NCAA Tournament in his senior year, which will impact UDM’s future APR score. “So we’re going to lose a point for our APR if he goes to the tournament, but that’s the rule that you made,” Davis said.

How does the transfer lower your APR, unless, like jjj, the kid just sits out a year without enrolling?

How does the transfer lower your APR, unless, like jjj, the kid just sits out a year without enrolling? The answer is that the two J's cost us more than 1 APR point per person. Hamrick, at a minimum, will cost us 1 APR point for the second semester of 2018-19 or the first semester of 2019-20 even if he lands at another school for this coming season. Oakland's APR will be severely hampered by the 4 undergrad transfers in the same season. Cumberland will not hurt them. But Scott, Beck, Norris and Newman will hurt them. And the 5th kid who dropped out, Nobles?, could also hurt them. The fundamental question about the APR is whether, in the era of the transfer portal, should any team be penalized a retention point? And should teams be penalized retention points for transfers due to coaching changes; e.g., should NKU lose a retention point for Vogt because he did not like the new coaching staff and wanted to play for the coach who recruited him at Cincy? Or was the APR plus the transfer portal part of the Power 6 conferences strategy at freezing more and more mid-majors out of the NCAA tournament money pie?

You don’t lose a retention point of a player in good academic standing transfers. Or so I thought. Are you saying otherwise?

I thought you would lose a point if a scholarship player leaves your program. I am not an expert so don't take my word for it.

I do not believe that our request for a waiver of the automatic post-season ban will be heard by that committee because we did not break any NCAA rules. I believe that our waiver request will go to the Committee on Academics.
Now, if you're an NC State fan, then you might want to know that contact information.

When we win the 2019-20 HL title, this is how I will celebrate.

Had some business on campus today and wandered through Calihan, catching the tail-end of a MBB practice session. Looked like all the returning scholarship players (Davis, Brandon, Isiani, Nguidjol, Moore, and Curry) were there plus walk-on Riley. Of the new recruits I recognized Calipari, LaGrand and Pink. A couple players I wasn’t sure of, I think one was possibly Maxwell. There was a shorter guy with a beard, might have been a walk-on from last year.
