If he couldn't help Chicago State, how's he gonna help us?

If he couldn't help Chicago State, how's he gonna help us? It's my fear that this is what were going to end up with - transfers with connections to the staff that couldn't cut it elsewhere, grad transfers with paltry stats and AD's friends from Texas. I really, really, really hope Davis surprises me because that's no way to build a program.

I also posted this in the 2017 recruiting thread, since he was part of that class. I really want this one, but going from the A10 to Horizon wouldn't be a step up I wouldnt be surprised if Williams joins his high school teammate Romeo Weems @ Depaul. I am sure McSam would like that.

Commissioner, I had the same initial thought. Here you have a guy who was under recruited, but blossomed under a really good coach and a really good league, but the program still can't keep him. How are mid majors going to survive in this environment? Terrific post. I understand all the arguments about players being unpaid and being exploited; that a player has a right to play where he wants and improve his situation; etc, etc. I'm not saying I agree or disagree, just that I understand. But the situation you describe above is why I'm starting to hate sports. The Dukes did everything right - they found Williams and gave him a spot when no one else wanted him; they worked with him and helped him become a star, and now Williams (if he's leaving just to "move up"), is screwing them, showing zero loyalty or appreciation. The even more awful and hypocritical thing is, as much as I hate this, if he was transferring to Detroit, I'd be celebrating. (If this actually did happen, would the fact that a Horizon League team would be getting over on a higher A10 team make this more acceptable? It just might)

The interesting transfers from Duquesne are Ann Arbor's Brandon Wade, who didn't play much this year as a freshman, and might want to come back closer to home, and Gavin Bizeau, a 6-11 center from Plainfield, Indiana, who also didn't play much as a freshman this year. Bizeau was rated a 4-star recruit by ESPN, which he assuredly was not, but it does indicate that he at times shows some real potential. He had offers from Toledo, Indiana State, Akron and other mid-majors out of high school.

Williams would have been an excellent snag out of high school. He's been a beast at Duquesne and I'd suspect he will have many Big Ten level choices to pick from. I hope he ends up with the Buckeyes as I don't think we'll be in the running. This would be an incredible get for our program. A guard with size who rebounds like a PF. He'll be productive anywhere he goes. We need to keep our fingers crossed on this player. His home is about 25 miles from our campus and it didn't make sense for him to come here as a frosh and for two years sit behind Chatman. If he files for hardship he might have immediate eligibility. If he did pay a casual visit it wasn't to difficult to see what was going on with our program.

I don't think we need to concern ourselves with Williams. He's not coming back to Michigan unless UM or MSU offer. Just read Michigan is involved . I get it though - I'll cool it on the Williams updates. This thread having a new post probably excites posters that maybe our Coaches are actually recruiting someone....

No, please continue to update us on Williams. I like following players from the state of Michigan that we recruited, or in Williams' case should have recruited.

Here's an interesting name for you guys - Tariq Woody. He is originally from Novi and played last season as a freshman at D2 Wheeling Jesuit and has decided to transfer. Now the key numbers: 6’9", 250#, ranked 3rd overall in D2 FG% at 64.2%; 12.4 ppg, 6.7 rpg, in 22.1 min/g. If I remember correctly, Commissioner mentioned his name over a year ago as someone we could have interest in. Of course, D2 to D1 transfers have to sit a year, so he wouldn't help next season From last spring: Woody signs with CWU - Central Washington University

It is being reported that Williams committed to Oregon. He chose them over Missouri.
