I wonder when the HL season will start. It could be crammed into Jan & Feb plus the first 2-3 days of March. I remember a few years ago when they played one set of conference games in December.
Anyway, most of our questions should be answered in the next 2 weeks. HL usually releases its schedule right after Labor Day.
I like the non-conference schedule. It will prepare our team (with or without an MBM) for HL play. The other thing is that road losses only count one-half point against your NET. So, a strong strength of schedule will offset a lot of road losses in determining where we rank heading into the HL.

According to Gonzaga Guru, the open dates on the Zag's non-conference schedule are: 1) Nov 2-14 (possible if we play in very early November, but I also hear we may have a scrimmage against a Big Ten team set for sometime before the NC State game) 2) Nov 30 - Dec 3 (unlikely for us to play in Athens OH on Nov. 30 and then fly to Spokane to play on Dec 2 (Zags play TX So. on Dec 4) 3) Dec 22 - Jan 1 (most likely dates being Dec 28-31 due to Christmas break; last year, our final game before Christmas was Dec 21) So, I'm thinking we will play at Gonzaga sometime very late in December. I have been following Gonzaga's scheduling for the past two years because when Coach Davis was at Texas Southern, he seemed able to get a game there frequently. And he mentioned the Zags early on in his interviews as a desired road game. I'm glad that they are likely back on our schedule. H/T to rogobob for reporting this information. Season opening day is November 5; We've got nothing listed until NC State on the 10th, so I would not be surprised if this were a season opener at Gonzaga. It would seem to me that the other likely possibilities are that we are playing SIU-E or EMU at home to open the season. SIU-E is playing at Iowa Fri 11/8, so we probably won't open with them unless its right on the 5th

My guess would be that we open at Gonzaga. EMU at home would be my second guess.

I will join the guessing pool here and take the outlier guess as to when we open. It's been a weird summer adjusting to the new coaching staff's view of sharing recruiting information. Also, it's been weird due to the APR issue overhanging our team. Because the APR sanctions also involve fewer practice hours per week and because the NCAA could decide to leave those in place even if they make us postseason eligible, and because the NCAA may not make their decision until well into the practice season, I think we open on Nov 10 at NC State so we can regain the potentially lost practice time with a few more days of practice.
Also, applying the Texas Southern formula here, I don't think we'll have a home game until sometime in December so that there will be little or no travel around exam week. Given my two unconventional views of this year's scheduling strategy, I think we play Gonzaga after Christmas. This gives me the totally unconventional look at scheduling for 2019-20. The only thing I can't figure out here is if we will play any HL games in December like we did last year. Anyway, this is my guess and my reasons for making the unconventional pick in guessing the opening game.

Will we have our annual pre-season exhibition with Wayne State, the money-raiser for public schools

I moved the speculation on our mystery big man (from Egypt?) over to the 2019 recruiting thread.

Will we have our annual pre-season exhibition with Wayne State, the money-raiser for public schools Does not look like it will happen this year. Wayne State's 2019-20 schedule does not list the game on it.

Wayne State's 2019-20 schedule does not list the game on it. That schedule doesn’t show any exhibitions games for Wayne, which seems unusual. I think it still could happen.

That schedule doesn’t show any exhibitions games for Wayne, which seems unusual. I think it still could happen. It's not all that unusual. Wayne has not always played an exhibition game to open every season. In the past 10 years, they played three exhibition games vs U-M and three versus us. In the other 4 seasons, they played no exhibition games.

With EMU, Toledo, and Northeastern at home, I bet USIE will be on the road this year. That would give us another return game along with Ohio next year in Detroit. Ohio this year is the return game from last year. So unless we did a 4 year deal, they won’t be on next year’s schedule. Of course, that may make it all the more likely we play SIUE in the road this year. Looking ahead to next year, I believe we’ll get two Summit League games as part of the conference challenge, so that will be another Calihan Hall opponent for 2020-21.
