Some information from a Titan fan who works at Detroit Mercy:
“We had the smallest budget deficit for the past year in 5 years and we have a first budget surplus forecasted next operating year with surpluses forecasted going forward. The President talked about new residence halls, student union, demolishing some buildings on campus to make room for new buildings as well as fundraising for major renovations to Calihan Hall. Enrollment should be up 100 students and likely starting a new school of optometry also a dental clinic in Southfield. The University cash position improved dramatically past year and endowment is around 65m . . . they are looking at 3% surpluses in the coming years, as much as 6m a year by 2024.”

Good news! Despite my regular complaints about the name and logo, I remain encouraged by the good things happening with the University.

Good news.

It's been a nice, steady and slow turn around over the past 8-10 years (coinciding with Pres Garibaldi's term at the top). The university has made some wise decisions indeed across its various programs and in both graduate and undergraduate levels. The success of the $100M campaign is another feather in the cap. People want to support and be part of a winner, and it seems UDM is on the up swing and momentum can definitely beget more momentum. Next stop --- Great Things for UDM! (err Detroit Mercy)

Heard today that the endowment is currently at $91 million, up 250% in the last eight years. They are confident of hitting the $100 million threshold in the foreseeable future.
The school has raised $621,000 for Titan Field improvements (goal is $1.75 million). The “Road to a Championship” separate campaign has $212,000 in pocket, a long way off from goal of I believe $7,000,000.
Somewhat related to finances, applications for admission to the University are up 20% over last year.

The Giving page on the University's website lists RTC at $5 million and the field at $2.25 million (according to the website the $1.75 is the to-be-raised). Dan Kennedy, the former basketball player who is chairing the RTC drive, explained that the committee has spent most of its time up to now developing a strategy, identifying potential donors and is just now gearing up for the actual fund-raising actions.

- Improving enrollment figures and student interest in attending UD, including at the undergrad level - Real strengthening of the endowment in material and meaningful ways - Massive capital projects on campus to modernize and improve, with so many buildings impacted (I'm told EVERY building has something going on?)
It's not all the most glamorous stuff, but it is what has to happen to build a foundation for the University to be in a stronger position to move forward. It's been a good past few years and hats off to those involved with these projects.
